Bible Study What do you think the Bible has to say about pride?

unfortunately my handle on mental issues fails when it comes to my own mind. And I have no clue how to get rid of the pride issue.

You are almost there. A big part of growth in Him is Him bringing us to the areas we are powerless in. Its where His strength is shown in our weakness. Its getting close to the part where He gets you to 100% lean on him in that area, knowing you can do absolutely nothing except submit. The healing is coming, keep going lady! :)

Lets talk about how to loose pride. I don't think humility comes easy, not the real thing really?

If you want to beat pride, you must come to a point in your life where you realize it's not all about you. You need to be ok with coming in second or third or even last. You need to take that pedestal you use to elevate yourself above your peers and destroy it. You need to truly believe in your heart that you are no better than anyone else and that they are no better than you. Regardless of what position you hold in this life, you must put everyone else's needs before your own. No exceptions.

Losing pride takes time and a lot of effort, but when you finally shed yourself of that unsavory characteristic, you will see life as you have never seen it before. Your walk with God will take on a whole new dimension. You will actually look forward to serving others. Not just because the bible says we should, but because you actually want to.

So what's the secret? Most of you will laugh when you see it, but it's a fact, it's actually does work.

"Love your neighbor as yourself". That's it. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Put everyone, regardless of who they are, first. Don't be afraid to say "thank you" to everyone who does something for you, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Make a special effort to notice the people that don't usually get noticed. Put a smile on every persons face that you come in contact with.

The Gospel is the simplest doctrine known to man. God has 2 simple requirements.

Mark 12
29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is:‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

If you follow those 2 commandments, everything will take care of itself. God will see to it that all your needs are taken care of. He said, "I will never leave nor forsake you" and He means it. He will be there 24/7, rain or shine, night or day, no matter what, He will be there. He will serve you like you've never been served before. It is such an awesome feeling to know that the Creator of all that is, is at your beck and call.

I know this sounds really arrogant, but it's true. If you truly humble yourself before God and the rest of mankind, the Lord will show you some truly wondrous things. He will also remove those nasty character issues.

Anyway, that's how I handled my issue with pride. Become a servant.

So now......:coke

Pride is just like everything else, lust or rage or whatever. By ones self, using ones own resources(self help books, shrinks), im not entirely sure the problem can ever be actually fixed. Experience and observation tell me that these problems just get temporarily capped or morph into something else. These matters are for God, in his glory and power, to repair. Its no mystery he delights in fixing these things for us, we just have to let him.

Now by no means am i saying sit and do nothing and be lazy, but resisting and asking for help from on high is exactly what we are told to do...as simplistic as it seems. For alot of folks, that sort of simplicity just isnt acceptable and they have to be in charge(personal experience), and when in that state of mind there really isnt any room for God to do his supernatural work. Not saying someone, especially us here, would do that on purpose. Its more a subconscious thing. Subconscious or not though, God has ways of bringing us to understandings of things.

I dont think there can any more practical advice than post #23, awesome post.

I saw a bunch of things posted, recognized immediatly where someone was at, and then got excited for them. Have alot of us not been there before? Is it not comforting to know that your brother or sister has had almost the exact same thing happen to them but in a different area and for us to let them know the horizon is right there? I know exactly what its like to know absolutely everything about whats wrong with yourself and also at the same time be able to do absolutely nothing about it. Its when you have let yourself go in whatever problem area it is you have, delighted and reveled in it...even lean on it as a strength. Some aspects take work, sometimes God cuts you a break and simply removes a chunk.

Oh...i did mention simplicity. The instructions are simple, but the fight isnt. The urges, the breakdowns, the twisted thoughts that come in the sound of your own voice but arent actually yours. All these signs tell you that you are on the right track, hence the need for enemy artillery.

As far as humility goes...is it something we can really just replace pride with? Doesnt the purge need to happen first? I dunno maybe i read that wrong, wouldnt be the first time thats happened.

When i grow, its hard if not impossible to explain. To have an entire novel of things happen to you in an instant is a God thing. This is just to say to the younger believers that us older and semi-older ones arent keeping secrets, things just happen and cant really be explained. There isnt any one thing to figure out and say "eureka its done!", because we arent actually doing anything but listening to what we were told to do. What does God's operating table look like i wonder?

Now im rambling lol
