Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Rev 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Hos 6:4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
Hos 6:5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

Will Jesus show up in the sky and say "die"? Or is it something else?

The sword is His Word. We live or die spiritually by heeding that Word...or not.

Yes, sword is the word.

So, what is this?

Rev 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

The judgment. Did they heed His Word, the sword, or did they use His Sword to deceive? All flesh is gone then but our spirits are either living or dead...alive or slain. His Word condemns those that are spiritually slain. They remain dead throughout the millennium. They are in incorruptible spirit bodies but they are spiritually dead.

2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

You think Paul thought this was literal when, it could be spiritual?

Compare:

Hos 6:4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
Hos 6:5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

You are bringing the correct scriptures together. Ephraim is symbolic of the church (the second born) and his brother Manasseh (first born) is symbolic of Israel. Remember that the second born received the blessing of the firstborn:
Gen 48:17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.
Gen 48:18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father; for this is the first-born; put thy right hand upon his head.
Gen 48:19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
Notice the Gentiles (multitude of nations) received the ultimate blessing of the "first born"
You can see, as Joseph complains, his father says he knows what he is doing .

Now here is the answer of your question in the other thread :)

Hos 6:1 Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
Hos 6:2 After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.

You can read about the history and future of the church here in Hosea. Just put "church" where you see Ephraim. You see the sin of the church and you see that God will restore . HE WILL RESTORE us, not man. HE WILL come on the morning of the third day.

The Sword of the Word kills the flesh (our old man) so that the new Man Christ can live in and through us.

Then we no longer know each other through the flesh. Yes, even Jesus, for our hope lies within the veil of his flesh. ( This means that he still has flesh and bones, even as he said to the disciples when he appeared to them in the room and ate the broiled fish and honeycomb ).

John 2:23-25
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.

24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,

25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. KJV

2 Cor 5:16
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. KJV

May God give us grace to understand what is woven in the veil of our humanity, with threads of gold, which brings us into captivity, leading us to glory in the flesh. This is why John worshiped the angel twice on the isle of Patmos.

You think Paul thought this was literal when, it could be spiritual?

It is both. All flesh will be gone. All will die once, or be changed, but that too means flesh is gone....

  • Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

Then what is there? Our spirits and it is our spirits that are judged.

The Thessalonian verses you quoted are ones I am studying in another thread. I believe the "wicked" that will be revealed is the first beast, the one world system. It is the iniquity already at work and will be destroyed.

I understand Ephraim and Judah differently than C does. Where he sees Ephraim as representing Gentiles I believe they are the house of Israel. Ephraim, as the larger tribe, is used in place of "the house of Israel." Together, the house of Judah and the house of Israel are....Israel, all tribes. For instance....

  • Hosea 6:10 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled. Also O Judah, He hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of My People.

Hosea was a prophet to the ten northern tribes, the house of Israel, (Ephraim) although he also had warnings for Judah.

In Hosea our Father is chastizing His chosen, His people.

I am sorry if I gave the impression that I "see it" as such. I was not trying to give you my view , nor was I interpreting anything, because the Bible very clearly says its not Israel, but a "multitude of nations", which of course cannot be Israel, but is talking about the Gentiles. The Gentiles are the only "multitude of nations".

Gen 48:19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

You're right. Where you wrote, "Notice the Gentiles (multitude of nations) received the ultimate blessing of the "first born,".... and those he was addressing were Ephraim and Manasseh, I assumed (wrongly) that you were saying the Gentiles were Ephraim. :sorry

Ephraim isn't a Gentile as he is of Joseph but he did become the "multitude of nations," as foretold by Jacob/Israel. They were scattered and became nations throughout Europe then England and then America....the house of Israel, a multitude of nations.

You are moving back into the letter. A mulitude of nations has nothing to do with physical history. (that is besides the point) The point has always to do with Christ and the church. Ephraim is symbolic of the church which is "second born" (last) , whereas Israel was the "first born". (first)

Luk 13:28 There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without. (Mannasseh)
Luk 13:29 And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. (Ephraim's seed, a multitude of nations)
Luk 13:30 And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. (Manasseh was first and now is last, Ephraim was last and now is first )

I disagree C. It has a great deal to do with history. I do agree that Ephraim is symbolic of the church. They are the house of Israel, today's Christians. Gentiles that become of the church are adopted into Israel...not the other way around. Manasseh and Ephraim are both the house of Israel, along with the other northern tribes.

Who was Jesus teaching? The house of Judah, not Manasseh. When they see that they are cast out, because of unbelief in Him, then those that believe (Christian, Jew or Gentile) "shall sit down in the kingdom. I don't see the "first and last" issue having anything to do with Manasseh and Ephraim."

For instance, Jacob/Israel, when giving His prophecy and blessings to the tribes, his twelve sons, was speaking about their seed and specifically here about the seed of Joseph who would both become great and one would become a multitude of nations.

  • Genesis 48:11 And Israel said unto Joseph, "I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed."

48:16 The Angel Which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth."

Abraham was promised through three forms.

As the stars of heaven.

As the dust of the earth.

As the sands of the sea.

Three unclean spirits.

Isa 6:5
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. KJV

Abraham had three wives who were three different mothers of his children.

Joe

You are not being clear. It seems like you are moving from one view to the other.

In this context the word Israel, means Old Testament Israel, although Ephraim points to spiritual Israel. There is no other way of saying it. We have two groups" Physical Israel and Spiritual Israel. Manasseh and Ephraim.

Anyway, this is not even my own thoughts, its general knowledge.

Epraim was a gentile, a goyim if you will,a non Jew, why? Because the covenant is always made through the woman. (Hagar vs Sarrah).

Jesus said that salvation is of the Jews, and Jesus was born of water, of a Jewish mother.

And the mother of Ephraim was an Egyptian woman, a gentile.

But it does speak of a more spiritual approach.

Hi Marc, how are you? :wave

It is thought that Joseph married a Gentile...but he didn't. God, through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel, was setting up the fathers of the tribes of Israel. He has explicit rules about marrying out of the tribes so He wouldn't have allowed any of them, especially Joseph, the one whom the birthright went to [1Chr 5:2], to marry a Gentile thus beginning two tribes which would go against His laws.

Joseph's father-in-law was the priest Potipherah. He served under a Pharoah that was a "Shepherd King" also termed a Hyksos. The Shepherd kings ruled part of Egypt for a time and they were not Egyptian by genealogy (race) but were by geographical location. They were not of Abraham, as was Jacob/Israel, but they were of Shemitic blood and therefore not Gentile.

God, the Father, has given a testimony, preserved it and set it before our eyes. He speaks through it revealing his Son, holding Jesus up before our eyes like the brass serpent on the pole.

This testimony is a sword to the carnal knowledge and reasoning that he has given to the nations, whereby he rules them with a rod of iron. He heals the nations with the leaves that were taken from Adam and Eve. Let us, who have been given to believe in Jesus, not go back to the leaves that are given to the nations.

When the Father speaks to us through his Son, it produces in us a fear to mix common fire with the apothecary. Aaron's two oldest sons, Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord for this. They had been with Aaron their father at the feet of the Lord in the mountain, before their drunkedness and disobedience.

Let us fear to mix Scripture with common knowledge. When this is done, there is no fear of God before our eyes. Noah found grace in the "eyes" of the Lord. His "eyes" are a flame of fire. Out of his mouth goes forth a sharp two-edged sword, the Word of God.

Joe

In the Word He gives us clues to this teaching Joe.

  • Genesis 46:31-32 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, "I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, 'My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me; And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.'

46:33-34 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, 'What is your occupation?' That ye shall say, 'Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers:' that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians."

47:5-6 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, "thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee; The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle."

57:10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.

Exodus 1:8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

The Pharoah that had cattle was NOT Egyptian for "every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians" and this Pharaoh...had cattle! The Pharaoh after him was Egyptian, "knew not Joseph" and thereafter the Hebrews were enslaved.

Historically it is as written, spiritually much more is being said.

The act of being slain with Christ's two-edged sword that comes out of His mouth is to go along with this:

Heb 12:25-29
25 See that ye refuse not Him That speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now He hath promised, saying, "Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven."
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.
(KJV)

Peter said "the heavens and the earth, which are now" is preserved for judgment by fire (2 Pet.3).

God ended the "world that then was" using a flood and a trembling of the earth.

This is what the seventh vial is about, which is poured out "into the air":

Rev 16:17-21
17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done."

When the 7th vial is poured out, "It is done", meaning God's judgment that will end this world. The next verses give detail of what that 7th vial does.

18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.
20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

This suggests changes upon the earth, a trembling even, a shaking of the earth Hebrews 12 was talking about.

21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
(KJV)

Zechariah 14 has a more graphic detail about the destruction of the nations that will come up against Jerusalem:

Zech 14:12
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
(KJV)

It's that change by God's consuming fire that will end this world age, and destroy man's works off this earth, so that only the things God made may remain. That will usher us into the Heavenly manifestation, the "spiritual body" existence Paul taught in 1 Cor.15 that is to occur "at the twinkling of an eye".

I don't think this whole thing is actually literal. I think the city being divided was a division between political/religious factions fighting each other, and the islands and mountains fleeing are people who fled the city's destruction.
