What does Slain with the sword of His mouth mean?

I believe it is literal, just as God destroyed that time of old which Hebrews 12 talks about, and also 2 Peter 3 talks about, and per many Scriptures in the Books of the OT prophets about the end of "the world that then was".

The Book of Revelation is not a symbolic Book. It's a Book laying bear literal Truths only using the figurative language of OT historical events as examples for the end of this world. And not all of Revelation uses the figurative speech of the OT. Quite a bit of it has direct literal statements, just as it is within all Books of The Bible.

It is thought that Joseph married a Gentile...but he didn't. God, through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel, was setting up the fathers of the tribes of Israel. He has explicit rules about marrying out of the tribes so He wouldn't have allowed any of them, especially Joseph, the one whom the birthright went to [1Chr 5:2], to marry a Gentile thus beginning two tribes which would go against His laws.

Joseph's father-in-law was the priest Potipherah. He served under a Pharoah that was a "Shepherd King" also termed a Hyksos. The Shepherd kings ruled part of Egypt for a time and they were not Egyptian by genealogy (race) but were by geographical location. They were not of Abraham, as was Jacob/Israel, but they were of Shemitic blood and therefore not Gentile.

In the Word He gives us clues to this teaching Joe.

  • Genesis 46:31-32 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, "I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, 'My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me; And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.'

46:33-34 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, 'What is your occupation?' That ye shall say, 'Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers:' that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians."

47:5-6 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, "thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee; The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle."

57:10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.

Exodus 1:8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

The Pharoah that had cattle was NOT Egyptian for "every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians" and this Pharaoh...had cattle! The Pharaoh after him was Egyptian, "knew not Joseph" and thereafter the Hebrews were enslaved.

Historically it is as written, spiritually much more is being said.
Careful, your preoccupation with race is showing. :nono
If you would take the time do just a little research (it's easy on the internets) you will find you are mistaken about the Egyptian views on cattle and sheep. Cattle were the most important domesticated animal of ancient Egypt. Sheep were less important, but because of their association with Egyptian deities (Khnum & Amen) their pagan priests were forbidden to eat mutton or wear wool. These facts allowed Joseph to arrange a situation where his family could be sequestered in Goshen under the pretext of their keeping sheep, while also earning income caring for Pharaoh's cattle, which was to become very important indeed.

:lol Having the ability to recognize that there are a variety of races in God's wonderful world, races He Himself created after which He said, "it is very good," doesn't mean one is preoccupied with that fact. It means one sees what one sees and doesn't allow the Jimmy Carters and Maureen Dowd's of the world to make them feel guilty or that "race" is a dirty word. :yes

The tribes were separate from the Gentiles. God separated them...not me, so take it up with Him. History is history Sinthesis and no amount of PC can or should change it.

How "abominable" were the Hebrews to this Pharoah, the one that had his own cattle, the one that gave them the "best land?" Does that not make one wonder....how could this Pharaoh be an Egyptian (by race)? Then, if one has an inquiring mind one might study the Hyksos or Shepherd kings.

I've studied the Hyksos, but that is not the point. Where you are in error is believing that Egyptians did not raise cattle. They did. Read the rest of Genesis 47! Who was selling Pharaoh their cattle for grain? Egyptians! The Israelites were shepherds, therefore seen as undesirables in Egyptian culture. However their expertise with cattle made them useful (yep, separate but useful :gah ).

Your argument that Potipherah was not Egyptian because he had cattle doesn't work, for if Potipherah was actually Hyksos instead of Egyptian, then it would not have mattered to him that 'every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians'. You're arguing that a 'shepherd king' believes every shepherd is an abomination. :rolling :rolling :rolling

If it is so important for you to believe in the genetic racial purity of Joseph's children that you would ignore biblical and historical facts, then I would say that you are overly preoccupied with race.

Well concerning the race thing,,,I believe the same as whirlwind,,,,and since im of the opposite sex,,,,and opposite race (when identifyed by color) I would say the wind coming out of your sails right about now.....

Befor I post ,,,,, as far as Genesis goes,,,,are you sure you have studied Hyksos aka sheperd kings????

Before I start...I apologize for being so snide in the previous post. It's hard for me to be nice sometime. :shame

I'm not saying the Hyksos kings believe shepherds to be an abomination...quite the opposite. The true Egpyptians (racial Egyptians)find them to be an abomination...not this Pharaoh as he wasn't Egyptian by geneology (race :D ) .

It is true that in chapter [47] it states....

  • Genesis 47:15-17 And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, "Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth." And Joseph said, "Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail." And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.

Remember that this was a Pharoah of Egypt, a Pharoah with cattle of his own and one that was gaining even more cattle because of the famine. He, as the ruler of the Hyksos was their protector and was gaining wealth and power for his people....the hyksos. Also remember God tells us that to the Egyptians, "every shepherd is an abomination." Knowing that....who were the "Egyptians" that came to Joseph with cattle, herds, and flocks?

Residents of Egypt. Those that lived in or moved to Egypt, just as the Hebrews did. Were the Hebrews Egyptian? If I lived in Egypt I would be termed Egyptian...but I'm not racially an Egyptian.

  • 47:27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multipled exceedingly.

41:57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands
.

The tribes of Israel could rightly be called Egyptian as they lived there but...were they by race? No. Another consideration is something this Pharaoh did.....

  • 47:22 Only the land of the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.

That is exactly what God ordered for the priests of Israel. This Pharoah was not Gentile.

Now, as far you you saying, "If it is so important for you to believe in the genetic racial purity of Joseph's children that you would ignore biblical and historical facts," I would suggest that it is you ignoring the plan of God and the written Word, in which He separated His chosen from all other races.
