What does your gas smell like?

This has been bugging me. I am uncertain of why gas has such different aromas. Isn't it all made of the same stuff? Does the differing smell mean that some gas has different ingredients? This is a VERY serious question. I am sure the answer can be found in chemistry. I am SURE marketing does not have anything to do with it, would you not agree? Think about it - what would you do differently based on the smell of gas? ANYTHING? I wouldn't.

I usually buy gas at Shell or Marathon stations. But I have noticed that if I go to BP my gas smells like OIL.

How can that be?

Don't know about a difference in smell among different brands of gasoline, but I have noticed that gasoline is not nearly as pungent as it was, say, 30 years ago. I noticed nowadays you can get it on you and it will evaporate and not leave you stinking for the rest of the day like it used to.

Well all you have to do is go into your closet at home the smaller the better, and cut a good one in there. And if you don't knock yourself out you can pretty much gage what your gas smells like, and if you are not cutting the boiled egg aroma ones in the closet you will be fine.

ok, I beg to differ if I changed my gas filter on my Nissan. even after a bathe my wife would still complain. same at work when I changed those. yes there is a difference in gasoline from station to station.

Oh! Oh! i know I shouldn't but my gas smells like old beans or ruined Sower Kraut, known by Germnas as saur bratten. I'm figuring the difference is because of the source and the mix. There are many formulas for gasoline... for gas also.
