What does your name mean?

I'm always interested in name meanings.
My middle name is Marie. It is Hebrew for sea of sorrow.
What do some of your names mean?

(HINT: If you're not sure, go to google and type in name meanings. Then pick a site and put in your name.)

I've got a great name. Timothy is a greek name that comes from the words Timo -to Honor and Theos -God. Timothy means Honoring God.

Dora is from the Greek name Theodore/Theodora and it means "Gift of God". Which wasn't why I was so named, they named me after my great-grandmother, but happened to be very appropriate as I was brought home on my brother's 4th birthday. He was a bit disappointed, rather wanting a bicycle instead of a dopey baby sister, but he was stuck with me.

When I was on 123 some 4 years ago, I used the name 'Restin'. My thought to use Restin was the thought of entering in to the rest of God, ceasing from my works to do His work, His plan for my life. When I rejoined 123 this time, I went with 'Ret'. In my thinking this has the same meaning as 'Restin'.

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, NASU
Ret

Yep, Timothy is right. I decided that I want to give my children names that mean something. My first daughter will be named Ella Rae. My husband's great-grandmother was named Eleanor, so Ella is short for that. My grandfather was Elmer Ray and went by Ray. He was more of a father to me than my dad was, so Rae is for him. My first son will be named Simon James, both of which names are Hebrew. It means Listening Supplantor.

My name, Caroline, means "little" and "womanly". It is actually my middle name but I use it, my first name is Joy.

Well everybody could probably already figure out what mine means: Song of Joy and Praise. Which is really neat how God works.....I'm in a well known choir where we're at called the "Sounds of Praise".

Tim your name is awesome. Going to check what the meaning is with my middle and see if it goes together.

Kudos HIm,
Carol

OK I just edit to add: My middle name is N/A It has no meaning. And my last name means "in leadership".......Song of Joy and Praise in Leadership......what's funny is that I'm always singing where ever I go, even to the point if I'm in the grocery store/ Wal-Mart/etc. etc. people will say it makes them feel good hearing me and looking so happy. I tell them it's my Jesus. And who knows it may be God's way of me spreading the joy of Christ or my singing testimony of HIS love. But I've had people ask me what church do I go to, and the next thing I know I'll see them in our church. God works in mysterious ways with us all, and if we were "all the same" it sure would be easier for God, but we're not, so HE uses us to stand in the gap in those differences to lead others to HIM and the salvation HE offers.

My name...

Tina (Christina) Rena, both latin - follower of God, reborn

We chose the children's names for the meanings too. Here they are...

Arianna Isabella, holy, and consecrated to God

Nathaniel Thomas, gift of God, doubled (actuall means twin)

Maxwell Arthur- A wellspring, of boldness

The Lord bless you.

My last name Tracey, is derived from the native Irish O'Treasaigh Septs. The name is taken from the Irish word "treasach" meaning "war-like" or "fighter". It is also translated as "higher", "more powerful" or "superior".

Yes legally my last name is Tracey not Muise :)

I've been trying to encourage some couples to call their newly-born daughters "Xenia" (Pronounce the "X" like a "Z"), a Greek word which means "hospitality", but everybody with whom I talked, would not consider it.

My grand daughters name means "pure women of God climbing in leadership" Chasiti Logan Lowery. But I call her my butterbean.
Going to check out my grandsons name and what it means. Jaidyn Edward Howard. I know Howard means "firecracker". Jaidyn is N/A (no meaning) Edward means Wealth holder....Wealth holder firecracker. I can sure see the difference when one child was covered from the get go in prayer and Jaidyn was sorta handled different cause of his dad. He has yet to dedicate their son to Christ. I've mentioned it and mentioned it off and on the last ten months, an still they haven't. Chazz was anointed immediately, and dedicated immediately and is a spirit filled child whose already experience without the knowledge of it speaking in tongues while praying to her Jesus. She has such a passion for Jesus in all areas......she's just a little Jesus Freak for real. She so sweet when she blows kisses to Jesus and tells HIM there's some more for YOUR pocket, and I'll see YOU in the morning. Children are so sweet when they pray....they say the cutest things to Jesus. The other day she looked up and one of the pictures I have on the wall where Jesus wrist are tied with rope and the crown of thornes. She teared up when she looked at it and said Gah Gah we got to go up there and take those ropes off my Jesus, and get those stickers off HIS head....they are hurting HIM and making HIM cry. I had to sit her down and explain that those ropes are not on HIM anymore and they can't hurt HIM anymore. She said good cause I'll go tell paw paw and he will beat them up for hurting my Jesus. I about died laughing, but I was trying to be serious for her, which happens to be her new word she uses all the time now when she's telling me something. No really I'm serious Gah Gah.....I about fall out when she says it.

Kudos HIM,
Carol <><

My first name is David, which is Hebrew and means "beloved". Unfortunately I am no king, poet, or good musician.

It's always amazing to me how some names do not go together. My first name is Heather, which means flowering. The heather is a flower on a barren land (heath). But my name means flowering sea of sorrow. It just doesn't flow. My dad wanted to name me Tabitha, which means gazelle. That still doesn't go with Marie.

My husband's name is Michael Todd. Michael is Hebrew for who is like God? and Todd is English/Scottish for fox. That doesn't really go well either. I don't want a junior, but my husband and I talked about naming a daughter Micaeah (I think that's spelled right, I have it in a Bible study book). It's a female version of Michael.

We want names that glorify our Lord.

My name is Jamie... it's Hebrew, and means "One who supplants"

Supplant means... 1. to take the place of (another), as through force, scheming, strategy, or the like.
2. to replace (one thing) by something else.

That isn't always a good thing. :-?

Vic beware, I am going to oust you and take your place!!!

I got to share this from God's Word, and the importance of being obedient to naming their/our children what God wants us to name our children....but rarely we ask God. I'm sure some have seen this in their bible studing. But this was perfect obedients for 1,056 years of the naming of their first born sons in Genesis 5 the descendants of Adam. This 1,056 of perfect obedients spelled out the prophecy of the coming of Christ......now that's a heart for God.

Adam...............Man
Seth................appointed
Enosh..............mortal
Kenan..............sorrow
Mahalalel..........The Blessed God
Jared...............shall come down
Enoch...............Teaching
Methuseselah......HIS death shall bring
Lemech.............the despairing
Noah................comfort or rest

Man appointed mortal sorrow, the blessed God shall come down teaching HIS death shall bring comfort or rest.

If we could be as obedient.....ummmm

Kudos HIM,
Carol <><

Ok, I looked it up (if anyone cares). It's Micaiah.

Nancy comes from Hannah, or the Hebrew, "Chanah", which means "Grace, favour".

That's interesting, Nancy. Because, speaking of names going together, my second name, Ann, is from Hannah as well, which means my full name would be "Gift of God: Grace, favor" which is a pretty good gospel. I know that this wasn't intentional, to have my name mean this. I was named after my great-grandmother, Dora and my middle name is a traditional middle name for women in my family.
