What Is A Christian?

What is your definition of a Christian? I think a Christian is a person who loves the Lord God with all his heart, mind, and soul, and loves his neighbor as himself. Here is why:

[37] And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
[38] This is the great and first commandment.
[39] And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[40] On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." Matt 22:37-40 RSV

yes elijah, i agree.
the problem arises that we don't go into depth the meaning of each.
such as, i don't know how we can support our militarys' agression overseas and say that we love our neighbor.
we support the poor in africa but say its okay to kill innocent people in iraq.
somehow we rationalize what we do instead of obeying the word of God.

Yes, but political decisions can be very complex, also. If we believe a leader of a country is murdering innocent people by the thousands, should we intervene?

THat is not what the OP is about.

Define a Christian is the question.

THat is not what the OP is about.

Define a Christian is the uestion.
But I think Allenwynne was raising the issue of how we are to apply the Lord's commandments to how a nation conducts itself in the world, since we Christians are components of the nations.

A Christian is a "follower of Christ", one who walks with Christ seeking to do their best to imitate Him and live their lives as close as possible to His. A Christian gives away their old life and strives to walk in Christ's footprints.

A personal intermit relationship with Christ is a must to go to heaven! ETERNAL LIFE IS KNOWING GOD

How intimate and personal is your relationship with God?
To some degree this can be determined by how often you sense His presence in your life.

Minute - every waking minute.
Hourly - frequently during the day.
Daily - sometime during each day.
Weekly - perhaps associated with religious services.
Monthly - occasionally through the year.
Yearly - on occasions like Christmas, Easter or the anniversary of a loved one's death.
Seldom - at crisis such as death in family or financial reversal.

Yes, I believe so, if he obeys the commandments of Jesus Christ, and anybody else who obeys the commandments of Jesus Christ.

The 'commandments' of Jesus were no different to the 'commandments' of the Torah.

There is, of course, a difference between what Jesus taught and what the Church dictates.

Yes, the churches do sometimes seem to go astray.

A Christian is a person who has been born again by the Spirit ofGod...someone whom God has brought to the place of repentance and belief in theGospel; a person who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ and His work on thecross (death, burial, and resurrection) as their only means of salvation.

A true Christian has a personal intimate relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ. Many christians know the bible but have know personal relationship with The Lord Jesus. Lord Jesus Christ said, "many will try and get into heaven but will not be able to because he doesn't know them". Many christians have the intellectual part of the bible, but have know personal intimate relationship with Lord Jesus.

And the only way to enter into that personal realtionship with Jesus is to be Born Again by placing your faith exclusively in Him for salvation.

A true christian is one who has been:
1. Born again (received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues)
2. Baptised in water by full immersion as a consenting individual.
