Bible Study what is a soul ?

Ok, I was going by your what was in you post.

"But with the soul being the Image of God, it will never die. The carcass our souls are contained in, temporarily, will expire but when the Resurrection is completed we receive a new body, that like our Souls, is imperishable."

Typically we understand the word "New" to mean a different one. That's why I asked the question.
And I, u8nlike many but like Paul, appreciate folks holding my feet to the fire of examination. All of us, myself included, are prone to, unintentionally, quench the Spirit.

When the body dies and loses its awareness it is not murder but just a normal body function. When your brain dies you can’t think. Notice Ecclesiastes 9:5 says the dead know not anything. Genesis 2:7 says that man became a living soul (after God breathed into his nostrils). Genesis 3:19 tells what happens to our body when we die ( it decomposes). In the book of John it tells us that God will resurrect the dead.( John 6:54, John 5:28,29)Of course when you are resurrected it is not going to be in that decaying old body.

if the body dies and lose its awareness ... i consider that murder lol :)

does our body cross over to the afterlife ?

how does it work ????

its hard for me to locate what is true and what is not true.

maybe the soul does not exist?
maybe the death of the body is the end ?

It's not hard to locate what is true or not True. We have something called a bible.

If I just quote something without posting the scripture, oops, let me know, I'll dig the scripture up.

Man has a body, a flesh shell, Paul called it a house we are clothed in. The flesh is nothing, and used to move around in this physical world.

Man is a spirit, created in the image of God who is also a Spirit (Not the Holy Spirit as that is God's Spirit, unless your oneness) We are spirit beings, and if you saw us we would look like light or human shape like light, whatever. The spirit of man is born again.

Man has a Soul. The term soul in the bible is used for groups of people, or used as our mental assets. The soul contains our emotions, thinking, memories and what not.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
(Joh 12:27)

Jesus is God in the Flesh, He is not saying his spirit or God part is trouble, He is dealing with his thoughts and emotions.

The Soul is not saved when making Jesus Lord. We have to do that. The soul connects to the organ called a brain. The flesh brain can't store our unlimited memory or complex understanding of things and ability to create. Scientists are starting to figure that out. There is more to the brain than just flesh tissue.

Paul believe the Soul could be saved also.

But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
(Heb 10:39)

James tells us that the Word can transform and save our souls (Thinking and emotions)
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
(Jas 1:21)

We are told to be transformed by renewing our minds (Souls)
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
(Rom 12:2)

Jesus said it's possible to destroy a soul (Matt 10:28) Not that God did, but possible.

You can talk to yourself, as we all do.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
(Luk 12:19)

The Word of God is able to separate our thinking or reasoning (soul) from what is in our spirit. It's through our spirit we have faith, and hear God, not the soul.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
(Heb 4:12)

Soul or souls can be groups of people or person. (We saved 30 lost souls today at church)

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
(Rom 13:1)

So think of our body as just a vehicle to get around in on earth. Our whole substance is a spirit, and our person or who we are is a soul.

Jesus also separated soul and mind, so our soul is just more than what we are currently thinking on.

Long enough.

Also the diagram Erza posted pretty much breaks it down.

Not being fluent in Hebrew and Greek leaves me just knowing there is a little difference in thought.

Natural birth:
Body
Mind, will, emotions. The ony things are--
The mind is carnal (tends toward self and sin)
The will is toward self
The emotions are not under the control of God
This natural man is eternal. The natural man is guilty enough to see hell through Romans 1:18-20
-----------
The new born, spiritual, man:
Spirit of the mind (mind of Christ)
The will (God works in us to will and to do of his good pleasure ---we give him credit for salvation). Jesus died for the sins of mankind.
The emotions (senses in a sense) can be trained to discern spiritual power (Godly power).
The born again man is eternal too. The beliver in Christ gets to go to God's heaven for eternity.

So. Although the natural man is eternal, he is not bound for heaven even if he does good works.

Heaven eternal life is available only through Jesus.
