this is just something to bank off of . i been studying on Jude
Contend for the Faith
3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. (contend for the faith ) note THE FAITH . of course he goes on to warn about false teachers/teaching .
Ephesians 4:13-15 New King James Version (NKJV)
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ

to me this is just a step when nurturing a new covert there is a lot to it .plus it takes a lot on there part studying and digging in the word.

The link was very clearly written. I noted near the end how new Christians are enthusiastic to share their new faith after finding the love of God, even though they don't necessarily know chapter and verse or know as much as longstanding Christians.
A bit like the 'first love'' when we were full of joy in the Lord. A lesson to be learned from the new Christians?

Ezra,
Your posts have a great deal to do with my remaining in contact on this forum. You are very grounded in the faith but every so often the Worldly Man peaks out and is seen before you quash him. LOL!

i.e. I haven't banked the Eight Ball off the End and the Left Far Rail in years to sink it in the Right, Near, Corner. LOL! It does lend experience to your teaching, thanks for the real life testimony!

DISCIPLESHIP

Obedience: Willing to do what one is asked according to the will of God

Gods will is for all of us to love unconditionally as Christ loves us this way. We need to be obedient to one another’s needs, concerns and passions through being true to God through obedience to his word and to know his greatest commandment is love. God will put people in our path, but it is up to us to reach out to those people with the word of God and not only through word, but through action of his word as we humble ourselves to reach out to others.
John 14:15-17; Matthew 22:36-40

Faithfulness: True and trustworthy in the performance of duty

Our works are not our own, but the works that Jesus started and left for us to continue. When we follow in the steps of Jesus we maintain a faithful heart and others will come to the Lord by us allowing the light of Christ shine through us as we help meet the needs of those who are struggling with their own lives and need our help. There is no one that is unworthy of the love of Christ as we are all his creation, but not all will hear his calling.
Matthew 5:16; Proverbs 13:17; Matthew 10:24, 25; Matthew 10:24, 25; John 14:16, 17; Matthew 22:36-40

Perseverance: To persist in any purpose or idea, to strive in spite of difficulties

Hold fast to your convictions of truth no matter what tries to come against you. When you know truth through the Spirit of God it is your responsibility to take Gods word out into the world with the Holy Spirit guiding you. Jesus said that if the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. Never worry about what man can do to you for the words sake, just be concerned you are doing the works for the Lord and not yourself so you will bring glory and honor unto His name. Jesus never said it would be an easy walk, but if we are truly walking in the Lord then we should take no concern for our own life as we have the promise of eternal life with the Father.
John 8:31; John 15:18-23; Matthew 10:28

Love: Intense affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties

It seems pretty easy to love those who love us and hate those who hate us as this is human nature, but we who have answered that calling of God now have a Spiritual nature that can love even our enemies. We can not shove the word of God on anyone and expect them to know the love of God, but if they refuse to listen then we are also instructed to wipe the dust from our feet and move on. I do not think we should write them off completely as many of us refused at first, but to pray for them and move on as Jesus said to wipe the dust from our feet, which means to move on to those who have ears to hear Gods call to repentance. God wants all his creation to come back to him, but also knows those who will refuse.
Luke 9:5; 2 Peter 3:9; John 13:34, 35

Humility: To be made humble, marked by meekness or modesty

The cross is just one example of humility where Jesus humbled himself through all the persecutions he faced even unto death that he presented himself no greater than those he died for. God said there is no greater love than a man lay his life down for another. This is what Jesus did was lay his life down so we could have life eternal with him. Followers of Christ should also have this meekness that we would be willing to do such a thing as this if it would bring a lost one to Christ.
John 10:15, 15:13; Matthew 10:24

Yielding ourselves to God allows us to put him first place above ourselves and family so we can be more obedient to his will. We know that Gods will is to love unconditionally and when we can love in such a way we become not only a blessing unto God, but a greater blessing to our families. We give up trying to do everything our own way and allow the righteousness of God work in us and through us to be a more effective member of his body and receive the greater blessings of his love and compassion.
Luke 14:26, 33

Bearing the Cross: Denying ones self for the purpose of duty

Denying ones self is hard to do as our carnal mind wants to reason out and rationalize those things of God and what his purpose is for us, but if we deny this flesh and allow Gods Spirit to dwell in us then we will know the purpose of his will and take action on that purpose without hesitation. Jesus prayed that if it was Gods will that he would take the cup from him, but Jesus knew what he had to do and went forward with no thought for his own life. We bare many crosses in our own lives as the world comes against us as Satan will try anything or use anyone to come against us, but we need to stay focused on the job before us as a disciple of Jesus and keeping ourselves in his servitude.
Romans 8:5-8; Mark 14:35, 36; Matthew 16:24, 25

If the Believers Faith is placed exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., The Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus, the Believer will enter into the Lord's rest that is carried out by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:2, Hebrews 4:1). This is the only way that the Holy Spirit will deliver the Believer into the death, burial, and resurrection on Christ so that the life of Christ is manifested through the Believer by the power of the Holy Spirit, both to will, and to do of his good pleasure (Romans 6:3-5, Romans 8:2, 2 Cor. 4:11, Phil. 2:13).

IT IS HIS LIFE THAT BRINGS VICTORY...NOT OURS. JESUS SAID, "YOU CAN DO NOTHING WITHOUT ME! EVERYTHING THAT MAN DOES DIES. EVERYTHING THAT JESUS DOES IS BLESSED AND LIVES AND HAS LIFE!

If the Believer does not understand this, all scriptures become enticing words to the flesh that will be attempted by the flesh to perform (Romans 8:2-3, 1 Cor. 2:4). The Believer now becomes a transgressor (Gal. 2:18).

The great Precious Promises from the bible are added to the Believer, through the knowledge of Jesus Who has called us to Glory and Virtue (the "knowledge" addressed here speaks of what Christ did at the Cross, which alone can provide "Glory and Virtue"). 2 Peter 1:3.

John 6:53 - "Except you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His Blood (i.e., the Cross, i.e., The Finished Work), you have no life in you," (presents the demand that caused "many of His Disciples to go back, and walk no more with Him" (John 6:66). It does the same presently! This Verse tells us the degree of believing that is required; it refers to the Cross being the total Object of one's belief; failing that, there is no Life in you.)

John 6:66 - From that time many of His Disciples went back, and walk no more with Him.

Sanctifying peace allows the Holy Spirit to deliver the Believer into the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ so Christ life is manifested through the Believer and are, therefore, victorious (It is His life that brings victory). (2 Cor. 4:11, Gal. 2:20-21, Romans 8:2,13, John 14:21). I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me (Who Jesus Is), and gave himself for me (What Jesus Has Done on the Cross for us where the victory was won). Gal. 2:20

The works of any Believer is to fight the good fight of Faith. God will not accept anything else from any man or woman but faith (and praise) in His Son Jesus. The scripture says, "THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASE, AND LISTEN TO HIM." God never said that about any Believer. Psalm 39:5 says, "...every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah." In other words we are all wretched and vile, daily. Anything and everything that is not Faith in Christ and Him Crucified is judge as iniquity (Matthew 7:21-23).

A disciple is literally one who is disciplined. In the case of Jesus, the discipline would come through our attempts to follow his teachings.

In John 8:31 Jesus says that if we follow his teachings, then we will be his disciples, we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free.

For example, "you will be judged in the same way you judge others". In order to apply this teaching, we're forced to take an honest look at ourselves, which can be pretty difficult because we all struggle with problems like greed, fear, and pride.

Another example of a teaching which requires discipline would be Jesus' instructions that we keep our prayers, fasting, and charity giving secret from everyone else. It takes discipline to allow others to think we don't do these things, for the sake of keeping it secret.

Something like taking up your cross and denying yourself daily takes discipline. This is one reason why I prefer the KJV version of the Bible as it does not substitute the word disciple for some other word.
