"But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies." (Romans 8:11)

For centuries the resurrection of Christ has been commemorated on Easter Sunday. It is true that Christ rose from the dead sometime near Easter. Around the some time of the year, pagan people held spring festivals that involved eggs and rabbits. When these people converted to Christianity the meaning of eggs and rabbits was "Christianized."

Today many people see Easter mainly as a time for candy, colored eggs, and new clothes. Stores stock up on sweets and trinkets. Some churches even hold Easter egg hunts. Children at a very young age are taught to focus on these things instead of on Jesus' death and resurrection. How grieved the heart of God must be.

Jesus left the glories of Heaven, lived among sinful men on earth, and died a cruel death for our sins. He did this for us. On the day we commemorate His resurrection why do we give more honor to pagan practices than to Jesus Christ Himself? We should celebrate the resurrection in our hearts every day of our lives. However, this Easter, let us remember Christ's ransom and resurrection, not the rites of the heathen.

Jesus Christ our Lord is risen indeed. Do you show Him each day to a world in need?
