What is God's eternal purpose?

We are redemed to be a part of a Body. We are dead in Christ in order to be indwelt by Christ. So Christ is to be our life....both from within us and among us.

Even this is not the final purpose. We are to become one Body in order to become an holy habitation for God...forever! The purpose is an eternal love! :)

Actually, the bible itself tells us what the eternal purpose is.:study

"to the intent that to the principalities and power in heavenly place might be know the manifold wisdom of god"

How does God unfold his manifold wisdom? Through the church of course!
God wants to indwell us corporately as well as individually.
This can only be accomplished by a completion of the temple of LIVING stones.THAT is the purpose of redemption. We aren't "saved" to sit in a church pew and hear sermons and put our 10% in the offering plate. We have a much higher purpose. We are "saved" to be LIVING epistles as a witness to all men.

The whole book of Ephesians is replete with references to our being built together for a habitation for God's Spirit. To deny that is to deny scripture.

Excellent! Amen!

I can see a few didn't read until the end. They just stopped at the first thing they didn't like. Maybe that's my fault. I should have broken it down into smaller chunks.

welcome Larry. glad you shared this.

there seems to be a stifling of gifts and in order for the building up to happen, an acceptance of the truly called into their rightful positions need to be recognized. yet, some feel they are called and are not, and if they are called to preach, they end up doing it all, which doesn't work well either. so it seems to not be the order in which the Bible presents for the building up the Body in unity and love. imo.
peace.

Hi Rocky!
You are right on the money.

A lot of sentiment seems to be given to the purpose being redemption despite the fact that redemption became needed some time after God put everything into motion. When he finished creating our world the LORD Himself said, "it was good."

Based on those facts we must assume that the LORD created a world that He knew would eventually need to be redeemed, but since He knew this; why did He still create it? That is what we need to focus on.
Some say that our universe was created to be a sort of stage for the heavenly beings to watch the "sin drama" be played out. In watching us, those beings would come to fully understand God's ways and righteousness and His manifold wisdom would be through the "sin drama" revealed to the heavenly host.
Others like myself believe that God created being and existence with L-I-F-E being His purpose. He wanted to create life in His very image and Jesus became the realization of God's purposes.

Hi Rocky!
You are right on the money.
I started reading the Bible this morning and what God had me read spoke to me on many different levels as this is exactly how i feel right now, but it also made me think of this thread, in the building up of the Body into unity, and what is really happening. or maybe i'm thinking too hard again. lol

Joel 1: 14 Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.
15 Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered.
18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19 O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. 20 Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

The title is wrong. It implies that God Himself has a purpose. God does not have a purpose. He is. What He creates, He creates for a purpose. His actions have a purpose. Yet, He is not eternally existent for any purpose. God is not a tool.

I suggest:
What is the eternal purpose which God the Father accomplished in Christ?

Then follow up with:
What is the purpose of creation?
What is God's eternal intent?
What is the purpose of God revealing himself to His creation?
To what purpose do His Children serve Him?
Etc.

This should not imply that I actually agree with the OP.

Eph 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
Eph 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

So He created us on a whim for no purpose. Bored? Something to do! :lol

OK I see how you read it....like what is God for?

Not that hard folks, God wants to LIVE WITH US...praise the Lord, I got goose bumps just thinking of it! Behold the tabernacle of God is WITH MEN and He will dwell with them and they shall be His people and He shall be their God Rev21:3. The purpose of God was to make man so God could dwell with them forever.

Amen...not only that but he is going to reveal himself in all his fullness,in us,his temple.

That's something that never been done before...God revealing himself in all his fulness.not even to the angels. Why do you think they desire to really look into these things?

This is part of the mystery,by the church will his manifold wisdom be revealed!

Adam bringing sin and death into the world was God's Eternal Purpose too. This we know because His Eternal Purpose was anchored in the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

the glory of Christ is man. I believe God wanted to create humans to love.
