What is the importance of Israel even today?

I put this thread in general talk because it can bring up a lot of different things. We know that Jerusalem which is in Israel is important to the Jews because they believe it is their holy land where king David built the temple. The Muslims believe it is belongs to them because it is the place they believe Mohammed was transported into heaven. It is important to Christians because it is where Jesus died, rose, and ascended into heaven. I also believe it is of importance to Christians because God said those who bless Israel shall be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed. Look at how the United States is one of the nations closest ally and protector how blessed it is.

We know that the Muslims and Jews are constantly fighting for Israel and one day a final battle will take place where Jesus will be victorious over all nations and will reign for 1,000 years on his throne in Jerusalem. Is the United States the nation that will provide homage to the Lord when he returns to Mount Zion like it says in Isaiah 18?

You opened up a can of worms here! You'll get all sorts of opinions. Yes, the USA is mentioned in Isaiah 18 based on what I believe, and Isaiah 18 (even fellow Christians admitted to this) is also talking about Israel. That is to say, the lost house of Israel (10 tribes) that never returned to the land of Israel.

I can't do this subject justice in just one post as the bible is a book about Israel, and her role in bringing Messiah for Yahweh to do his redemptive work, and also the feast days which were prophetic of things to come regarding man's redemption in the work of Yeshua.

But, be forewarned. You'll hear all sorts of things, and how Israel supposedly rejected her Messiah, and how Yahweh now supposedly relies on Gentile nations to do the very things he clearly promised Abraham and his descendents to do. And then the answer as to why will be that those promises were taken away from them due to their disobedience (as opposed to merely withholding blessings) when in fact Paul made it clear that those promises were based on faith which antedated the disobedience to the Law. And that faith was a reward to Abraham regardless of how his "kids" acted. If their disobedience was a reason to take any promises away, then NOBODY would have a Messiah, either, since that was part of the package promises. And I could go on forever. But yes, in fact Israel has a very real importance, even today, and even tomorrow, but I don't see too many Christians believing that any longer, and thus deny what the bible is about to begin with.

Has anyone else read the book, "Israel, My beloved," by Kay Arthur? [<---- click to follow PDF link]

I loved that but it is written in my preferred style so that almost goes without saying, but I really do love this book.

He, however, had remained the same—loving, devoted, consistent, never-changing.
Sometimes it made Sarah angry that he was so perfect.

The jews aren't the Israelites.

I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

We are the Israelites of the Bible. Jews are Edomites. For example "I shall make you a father to many nations"
the jews have only stolen one nation. I could go on but you get the point.

Sure do. There is what is called "the Dispersion" where 10 of the twelve tribes were dispersed. Two remain even today and they are called "Jews". The children of Israel are those born physically to Yakov, the grabber, whose name was changed to "God-fighter" and they may also be known as those who are descendants of Avram whose name was changed to Abraham, the man who left his city and sought the city whose builder and maker is God. We (those who follow and are grafted into) this are also known as 'Sons of God' because we were adopted into that family of faith when Jesus sent His Spirit to Gentiles and fulfilled the command given to him about what he called, "my other flock".

I like tracing back family names and could go on and on including my given name here, Sparrowhawke, but that is another story, for another thread.

Yes and the the word jew should be translated as Judahite. You cant become a "spiritual Israelite" either you either are an Israelite
or your not. The people called jews are not the Israelites of the Bible they themselves admit it.
"A brief History of the Terms for Jew" in the 1980 Jewish Almanac is the following: "STRICTLY SPEAKING IT IS INCORRECT TO CALL AN ANCIENT ISRAELITE A ‘ JEW' OR TO CALL A CONTEMPORARY JEW AN ISRAELITE OR A HEBREW." (1980 Jewish Almanac, p. 3).
