I need a distraction lol.So what is your favorite movie? What movie could you watch over and over again or on a bad day what movie really does it for you?

The BBC version of "Pride & Prejudice" with Colin Firth & Jennifer Ehle ..... "The Thin Man" series with William Powell & Myrna Loy .... most of the Cary Grant movies .... James Bond movies with either Sean Connery or Roger Moore .... "The Queen" with Helen Mirren ... "The Day The Earth Stood Still" - the original with Michael Rennie ... "Mama Mia" with an all-star cast (mostly) ...

Grief! I have so many favorites, it all depends upon my mood at the time.

("Independence Day" is airing right now)

"Finding Nemo" is my go to for when I am down, it also has some memories attached to it.

Other than that I tend to default to movies with Will Smith or Robin Williams.

I'm not sure if I even have a #1 favorite, but I do like the movie Fireproof.
I also really like animated movies like Tangled.
The other night I watched an anime movie called Air. There's also a series by that name that I had been watching, but I think in some ways I actually like the movie adaption better.

cool mine are all sort of spooky related lol but ive had them in my life for years and years :The craft,The worst witch(1986),Practical magic,I could watch these over and over again on a bad day or even just a blah day lol

That's definitely a movie I could watch over and over. Lots of cheesy dialogue, lots of stuff going boom, illogical action and hollywoodesk happy ending (flying up there in a hyjacked alien space ship, installing a virus on the mother ship, and then heroically escaping the fatal nuclear blast in the last possible moment, veeeery logical. *lol*) So it's really fun entertainment that won't bother your intellect very much.

Oh, and the original Star Wars trilogy. Don't know if I could watch it over and over now, but I used to. Especially Return of the Jedi. I have a very weird fangirly part of my mind left in there that is like "OMG, teh feelsss!" when it comes to the part about Darth Vader and Luke in that movie...:oops

Poor Luke had some real bad daddy issues.
Man they screwed up the whole Star Wars story when they made the new trilogy.

young un. the books and episodes didn't start with star wars episode iv. lucas just choose that at random. wait till later when luke turns to the dark side. lea must fight him, and also has two kids who also become jedi. the emporer didn't die. and the empire almost comes back.

The only shows that make me cry in general are anime. Like Clannad. I love that show, but it's impossible to watch the whole thing without crying, especially the after story.
Anime tends to be generally deeper than Western media, I find.

anime? have depth? really? I always find that to be shallow in general. there is an exception that come to mind.robotech! and also exosquad. but that is because im a vet and I understand the shows now

Depends on which series you watch, I guess. Some are really well done. I've only been into anime for a year, though. Started with Fullmetal Alchemist. So far my favorites are that and Clannad, and if Clannad, Air, and Kanon are typical examples of anime based on stories from Key*, I'd love to see more of them.

*Key makes visual novels that you can play/read on your computer. But some of them are rated for adults and so I'd be cautious about checking those out.

Well I know that the new trilogy is actually as old as the iv - vi one, at least on paper. But the movies were just bad. Anakin's turn to the dark side, although forseeable, could have been hell of an emotional ride for the audience, but the guy that played Anakin did a horrible job, he was so bad that the German voice dub actually improved his acting!! Anakin was so unrelateable I just didn't care for what happened to him, and so were many other characters. Even those actors that had in previous roles proven their worth (like Natalie Portman, Christopher Lee, Samuel L Jackson, Ewan McGregor) couldn't add any suspense. I couldn't get myself to care for what happens to the characters on the screen. Heck I have absolutely no memories of what even happened in episode II.
It's all just boring eye candy.

Well I sure hope Leia gets to fight something or someone, because after she was quite a badass rebel leader in ep IV her importance was sadly reduced to being Han Solo's love interest in the other two old movies. Though she still had a few good lines of dialogue (and strangled Jabba the Hutt). But imo women are reduced to being someone's love interest in fiction way too much. So I'm hoping for a light saber swinging jedi Leia in the sequel trilogy.

Leia becomes a Jedi in the UE novels. Also has kids who become Jedi. One of them turns to the dark side, though.

yes but well the character of leah(sp) is just more then a love interest. but its hard to just put then in a movie with a limited knowledge base on the audience. the huts were quiet interesting to read up on.

I didn't care much for episode one but I did like two and three. sad at the end but that is how I heard it did happen. I look forward to dark force rising. (episode 8)

There are so many kinds of manga/ anime you can't possibly find all of them shallow.
It's just that only the commercially successfull ones are translated and aired in Europe and the USA. And those are usually the less challenging ones for teenagers like DragonballZ or Sailor Moon or Pokemon.

Have you seen any of the Studio Ghibli movies? Like Princess Mononoke? That movie is a not quite shallow and somewhat dark story about nature vs civilisation and human's place in the world. I just didn't like the end very much, too much of a happy ending (though most people think the ending is great). But the movie is great. Not shallow at all. Way less shallow than American nature vs civilisation flicks like Avatar.

uhm well before that was akira. be advised most of the anime I watched had porn in it and also wasn't in English.

robotech was edited a lot before I saw it as a kid. I watched in on hulu and I saw well half nude characters that I don't recall them being in scenes like that. google robotech and see what it was.

To be fair, as much as I love Clannad, there are some things that kinda push how far you're willing to believe here and there.

Air and Kanon, the original visual novels according to what I read ARE eroge...so I wouldn't recommend them. The anime adaptions are not, though.

Funimation does good anime dubs.
