Well it's raining here a bit and our family has just last night started up a game of Monopoly! :-). So far I've got all the yellows (Piccidily, Lester Square and Coventry Street), Trafalgar Square, Eusten Road and about $1200. Not too bad, but I'll have to work on beating my dad who's got about three times the amount of properties than I do, and my brother who hides money under the table. :screwloose.
those are the names on ausie monopoly? the yellow properties are if i recall correctly:marvin gardens, atlantic avenue, and ventnor avenue.
i had to look those up, been yrs since i played, i think it was with my grandkids in 2005, not sure, anyway too long

We play with the original English set. You must play with an Americanised version.

Ah, Monopoly is a game with a convoluted history, but it form from 1935 onward was produced by Parker Brothers on a concept developed by Charles Darrow and the place names were all streets and landmarks centered around Atlantic City, New Jersey. I would surmise, dear Nick, that you are playing an Anglicized version of the game! :yes

Playing Monopoly is certainly a top rainy day activity in our house. The battle usually is won by my daughter, who at 12 is one of the most canny players of the game I've ever seen, unless we play by "Steve's rules" in which case the game drags on for days and he always wins.

Hmmmm...:chin didn't know that Handy, I guess you really do learn something every day (even in school holidays :lol).

My dad's work is in the financial sector, so he can usually win at monopoly! :D

I have never done well playing that game... I always ended up with this card!

Has anybody ever really bought the get-out-of-jail card?

I feel deep mental brotherhood with this Steve. :approve

I think early on I've bought a get-out-of-jail card, (not for its full price of course!) because it was early in the game and I wanted to buy properties. But when there are hotels etc on the board, I almost want to get in jail - much safer! :lol
