Do you just listen to Christian, secular, or a little of both?

Well I checked "both" however I want to clarify that. I listen to classical and instrumental jazz music which could be considered secular. However I don't listen to the vocal stuff, and I just don't like any of the "contemporary" music. I'm getting to like "gospel" music more, since one of the few Christian stations around plays that style.

I listen (and write) lots of differenet styles and genres of music. One thing I notice, there is good and bad music in all catagories. My rule of thumb is... I don't/won't listen to anything that degrades, insults, lifts up evil or causes pain. I do listen to music about the human condition.

God gave us music and a brain to decide what to listen to... it's up to us to do the right thing (according to His Word).

Peace, Deke

Well I listen to christian music mostly. I don't like to listen to musis that degrates women. I'm a woman and it discuss me the way some of them talk about women and it is a shame how the young girls let them exploit them in videos. Personally, I think that we should not straddle the fence.
I like good clean music. :D

For me, music must be uplifting, not repressive or depressing. I don't find that too much in today's secular music. At least not in the pop/rock catagory. And today's videos? Not really worth the film they're recorded on. :-? With that said, I listen to mostly Christian contemporary and Praise music.

Yeah, I agree. I listen to all christian music...Gospel, pop, rock......
I like mercyme, fred hammond, gary oliver, trinity 5:7...ect.

I selected both too but want to clarify. I come from a very small town where we get NO christian radio stations. AHHHH! I borrow cds from friends etc but sometimes my kids want the radiostation.....the only radio station we get here is an 70s,80s,90s etc type of station. I definitely pay more attention to the lyrics of the christian music I listen to. Just my two cents.

Well, I listen to both, but the ratio is about 8:1 in favor of 'secular' (though I'll argue the whole issue of what is secular what is sacred?). The only "Christian" CDs I own are: Stavesacre Friction, Absolutes, Speakeasy, Split/E.P., Collective, Live From Deep Elum, Stavz'a'ker; Evanescence Fallen; Project 86 Drawing Black Lines, P.O.D. Warrior's E.P., Fundamental Elements of Southtown, Satellite; 12 Stones; Blindside name forgotten, heh heh and my church's CD, Hiding Place.

Take that number times 8 and you get my 'secular' albums.

Both. We have a sterio in the b-ball locker room and all they play is unedited rap. :sad :-?

I listen to only Christian music whether it be ccm, rock, ska, punk, metal, rapcore, or just good ole praise and worship...it's all good...

For those of you who don't have Christian radio in your town, check out http://www.Christianrock.net they play Christian rock 24 hours a day....yeah, you can't hear it when you're away from your computer, but it is sweet to have! :D

ohhh ME TOOO!! christianrock.net is the best! anyways, i checked just christian music, but i define that as any christian that makes music... i don't really know if they are christians for sure, but i go by 1. do they say they are a Christian and 2. do their lyrics reflect that so, i mean i still listen to chevelle, blindside, pod, pillar, switchfoot, stacie o., lifehouse, you know what i mean?
and i do listen to evanescence, they now pretty much say they aren't christians, but i think their cd has spiritual value.

I honestly dont care if its Christian or Secular, I really just cant stand much of anything with a pop/rock kind of sound. I like some Country, mostly because thats mostly what my husband listens to. I like big band/jazz ish sounding stuff - I love Billie Holiday for some reason and pretty much anything Gershwin. I listen to alot of musicals, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, and My Fair Lady being my favorites. I mostly listen to various classical, mostly the Baroque (Vivaldi, Handel, and Bach) and Romantic (Strauss, Tchaikovsky) periods. I especialy love Baroque choral works. I truly love Handel's Messiah and Bach has some gorgeous pieces as well as his masses. Of course I seem to have an inborn afinity for Celtic music, something about the sound of bagpipes and an Irish whistle just stirs me to my verry core (and yes I realize how corney that sounds - I just couldnt think of any other way to put it). I do really like Michael Card as far as Christian music goes, lots of his songs have a lovely Celtic sound and his lyrics are amazing.

I'm into Earle Brown...I just got a recording of a piece for electronics and percussion with a photo of a half-naked hippy on the cover.

I hope you're aware that Richard Strauss is as anti-Christian as it gets...you may as well listen to Slayer at this point (Also sprach Zarathustra, op. 30 is a tone poem obviously inspired by Nietzsche...Strauss is a fairly vulgar guy all around).

You may be talking about Johann Strauss Jr., though!

There's not a lot of Christian music in symphonic form.

I'm listening to Bruckner at the moment (Sym. no 9/Cond: Bruno Walter)...he's Catholic...you need an attention span for his music, though...heavy Wagner influence. Very few conductors can pull it off...Furtwangler's the best.

Yeah I was refering to Johan Strauss Jr. "the Waltz King". Ive always likes classical stuff Im just only recently learning enough to know anything past the names of composers I generaly like. I didnt know R.Strauss was so blech (now isnt that an intelegent sounding description :P ) but that would certainly explain how dark and heavy his stuff usualy sounds - granted Tchaikovsky isnt exactly spiritual giant either and his ballets are lovely.

Tchaikovsky was also a homosexual. I suggest you toss those filthy ballets in the compost heap.

Whoever would have thought that the guy who wrote "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" was gay?
