lol yeah I still love the Nutcracker and always have but finding out he was Gay when I read a short biography a few years ago it explained why he liked ballets so much - the tights and all...

I just had my first listen of "Sleeping Beauty." Geez, the Disney movie bit all of its music off the original ballet by Tchaikovsky. I guess putting words to an old classic is better than having a moron like Phil Collins write mediocre originals.

yeah Ive always thought that was really neat the way they did that - only problem being I cant listen to the orriginal without thinking of the words Disney put to it

That's what bothers me, too...I grew up with the Disney movie and now, in my mind, the music has been ingrained into the movie. It's possible, but very hard, to break those kind of associations.

Yes, I know what you mean.

I personally don't enjoy listening to the Ballets much because we use them so much - particularily the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. That is why, if I listen to classical I prefer Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and Vivaldi.

I don't get offended by much, but one thing that sets me off is using classical music to sell some stupid product.

You always find Mozart serenades in jewelry commercials and such. People's disrespect of art bugs me.

One ballet they'll never use is Petroushka by Stravinsky! It's actually very light-hearted (in the Mozart sense of the phrase) and catchy. It's a little weird, but in a silly way.

I suggest, if you're curious, to go with the recording on CBS with Stravinsky (himself!) conducting (I've heard at least 10 different recordings of this piece...and who's playing it really makes a difference). Most large public or university libraries should have it.

I think Ive seen that ballet before, about a puppet or something right? (its been awhile) And yeah It does get mildly annoying when some beautiful song is selling like tootpaste or something but oh well. I was never in a big enough area that we even had enough people to have a real ballet - just recitals and the occasional trip to Topeka to see a company preform so I never got sick of the music.

Well....

Most people on the net must know this by now but I'll say it again. I'm a huge Metallica fan and I have been since as far back as I can remember. I'm also a big fan of No Doubt. Not that Rock Steady stuff though. That really sucked

I listen to both. But i must say that it's about 15-10% secular and the rest is purely Christian music.

**Waves at Balaam's Miracle **

I listen to both.. a breakdown would be Jazz, classical,
and bluegrass gospel :)

i've actually done this with some of my friends that breakdance, rap or that play b-ball with music boomin from a stereo and now their into christian rap also.

Do you just listen to Christian, secular, or a little of both?

I listen to a little of both types of Music

I like garth brooks and tim mcgraw as well as carman and ray boltz hehe

God Bless, Scott :)

Well, I've noticed that everyone's saying musical groups that they like. Christian or non-christian. So i thought.. Meh I'll have a say too. These are just a few of the bands I listen too

Rancid, Lagwagon, Pennywise, Nofx, Millencolin, MxPx, Less than Jake, Thousand Foot Krutch, No use for a name, Gimme gimme, Dropkick Murphys, Switchfoot, All american rejects, Real Big Fish, Operation Ivy, The Clash, Blink 182, Sum41, Payable on Death, Pillar, Relient K, New Found Glory, The Distillers, Anti-Flag, Gutter Mouth, Blindspott, 48 May, Late 80's Mercedes, Cell, Zion, Kutless, Sommerset, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Casualties, Mums Dollar, Taking Back Sunday, Steriogram, Blindside.

That's just all the names I can think of right now. Most of those bands are secular. About 1/3 are christian bands. But does that make me a non-christian? The point Im trying to get here is that just because Im a christian doesn't mean I should restrict myself to Christian music. Or secular for that matter. I listen to Life Fm (NZ Radio) as much as I can. But i also listen to a lot of Cd's

Now I'll leave you in peace or this post will just get longer.

:D I love "Third Day". Their new song called,"Sing a Song" is great!
I really like "Petra" alot,too.
"DC Talk" and the song,"Jesus Freak" & the books.
Nicole C. Mullins with "My Redeemer Lives", Ray Boltz, Crystal Lewis,
Tait, Sonic Flood,Jackie Velasquez, and many more.
Worldly music brings me down, unless it's clean.
"Carmen" with the song, "This blood" is very good too. Instead of "this Bud's for you",it's: "This blood's for you"
Considering Lily is pretty good also.

Ha, all good music for sure but someone is missing and I can't quote put my finger on it.

Third Day, awesome group. Saw them in concert July 17th. I think everyone should become a "Gomer". Mac talked a little about their newest song, "I Believe" getting lots of secular airplay across the country.

I found this little piece of trivia from their website interesting...
Billboard magazine noted the act is "not only one of the best Christian bands of the '90s but one of the best rock bands, period.â€Â
