What would you do?

You have just been promoted in your job.It is a huge hike in pay and benefits. You have a family to support. The company has told you that if you do not take this promotion they may have to put you in another area of the company with less pay.The job involves traveling with other co-workers involved.Staying in hotel rooms with co-workers who were both men and women. They meet together for meetings and often have dinner. You have heard that sometimes those co-workers drink heavily and get involved in intimate situations with each other. What would be more important to you as a Christian? To have alot more money to support your family and take this promotion maybe be able to buy a nice home and have the nicer things you think your family would like or maybe be demoted and looking at the moral aspect of this promotion?

Why not?

Just because my fellow workers want to get drunk and sleep with one another doesn't mean I have to follow suit.

Ok.As long as you could deal with the peer pressure and also the negative comments from your boss.

Why wouldn't you?He would want you to socialize with your co-workers.I actually know someone who was demoted for that.

That's what the courts are for. Not that I'd sue him if he fired me, but I have that option.

And there's really nothing wrong with socializing. I do it all the time. You can socialize without drinking liquor.

And if my boss gets pissed because I won't sleep with one of my coworkers, do I really want to work for this company? I'm gonna say no.

The moral of the story is that life if full of choices and temptations. What comes first?

I wouldn't, I have been in some of that with the frat problem with the army. likely because of the issue a promotion would be turned down and also a hostile work environment will follow if not already be. im surprised that the lt and the e-4 involved in that issue weren't sent home in a body bag.

I would pray to God first and foremost.I would ask for guidance and direction. If it brought unrest to my heart I would not take it.What is more important here?God?My family? the money and power and maybe influence with this new job?

I don't socalise with many at work. I don't have too. I go in, get the machine, check reads and hit the road and come back and turn in all that and leave if im going to leave early.

I was very much looked down at by my manager and co-workers.They would have all the celebrations at bars and happy hours.I don't drink and I did not go.I heard that they would have a few drinks and then start talking about all the workers who were not there. No thanks.I was told about how anti-social I was in my review.

ah I can go to a bar if I choose and not feel convinction in that beer isn't a temptation but given the other issues along with that, ie being a designated driver and also lust issues its not wise. assumption being that there a young attractive ladies there.

I also wont join the American legion nor the vfw as most of those are drinking sessions. don't get me wrong they do great things but I do know from the inside as fil is a president of the vfw. he can be drunk and we can talk about all manner of things. I know, he was a bit lit one time and could talk and didn't act a fool.

If you go into that position as a nonChristian not caring you would be ok.With the temptations with that job and being a Christian....I don't know.

I live or try to as a Christian, but being a soldier is far more tempting then that situation for me

Hey Kathi, I've been in similar situations like that. I was asked by the coordinator, a young woman why I don't go to their business/social gatherings. I told her, I have to work with you people all day, I choose not to spend my time off with you all. She said "I'm hurt". She knew I was a solid Christian, didn't drink, and never gone to those drunken affairs usually at a hotel. Yep? Even a discount on the rooms....No thanks, I'll take the demotion. Funny thing, I led one of the men in management to the Lord and never had a problem with demotions.
