As Willie points ut it is a book on jewish history but, and most people despise getting lessons from past but there are valuable lessons that we should make note of in all of history and you have landed on one, here.
Chapter 13
1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, 2 `Sanctify to Me every first-born, opening any womb among the sons of Israel, among man and among beast; itis Mine.' 3 And Moses saith unto the people, `Remember this dayin which ye have gone out from Egypt, from the house of servants, for by strength of hand hath Jehovah brought you out from this, and any thing fermented is not eaten; 4 To-day ye are going out, in the month of Abib. 5 `And it hath been, when Jehovah bringeth thee in unto the land of the Canaanite, and of the Hittite, and of the Amorite, and of the Hivite, and of the Jebusite, which He hath sworn to thy fathers to give to thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou hast done this service in this month. 6 `Seven days thou dost eat unleavened things, and in the seventh day is a feast to Jehovah; 7 unleavened things are eaten the seven days, and any thing fermented is not seen with thee; yea, leaven is not seen with thee in all thy border. 8 `And thou hast declared to thy son in that day, saying, ` It isbecause of what Jehovah did to me, in my going out from Egypt, 9 and it hath been to thee for a sign on thy hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, so that the law of Jehovah is in thy mouth, for by a strong hand hath Jehovah brought thee out from Egypt; 10 and thou hast kept this statute at its appointed season from days to days.
11 `And it hath been, when Jehovah bringeth thee in unto the land of the Canaanite, as He hath sworn to thee and to thy fathers, and hath given it to thee, 12 that thou hast caused every one opening a womb to pass over to Jehovah, and every firstling--the increase of beasts which thou hast: the males are Jehovah's. 13 `And every firstling of an ass thou dost ransom with a lamb, and if thou dost not ransom it , then thou hast beheaded it: and every first-born of man among thy sons thou dost ransom. 14 `And it hath been, when thy son asketh thee hereafter, saying, What isthis? that thou hast said unto him, By strength of hand hath Jehovah brought us out from Egypt, from a house of servants; 15 yea, it cometh to pass, when Pharaoh hath been pained to send us away, that Jehovah doth slay every first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of man even unto the first-born of beast; therefore I am sacrificing to Jehovah all opening a womb whoare males, and every first-born of my sons I ransom;
The most abused item in this world is scripture and ripping a verse out of it's context is, likely, the most common form of trashing any scripture is to rape it by jerking it out of it's context and this usually perfored to Proof Text some point that is not Godly and is not taught but is often taught against in the Word of YHWH. You have not done that but the practice has been made so popular tat is has infected the Church that it has become a standard heard from the Pulpit by men assuring the people it is of God.
I have even heard some of the passages in Revelation describing Satan being attributed to Jesus. He was a pastor examined by the Pulpit committee I was a member of and voted for the man. But just as soon qs I called him and put the passages back into context he conspired and soon booted me and my family out of
his church!
Scripture is the only thing on this planet that does not Indwell any man that can explain scripture, being the largest reason for looking at any Scripture in it's Local Context to examine how it fits into the larger context of the entire Bible.
This scripture is a verse in Jesus'/God's description of Consecrating Yisrael's first born... children, Beef, sheep, everything that has blood in it's body.
Remember, YHWH was bringing a people out of Barbaric life style to teach them to Worship Him, in truth and in Spirit. They were a sandy lot tat was as rough as a three year dry Corn Cob. included in this lesson was a good example of His forgiveness to a Barbarous People, YHWH knew these people needed their Jackasses (Much larger ad stronger than a Donkey) and their Oxen for the most dificult tasks of life but He also wanted them to learn submission, the submission required to worship with all of their Being and their Spirit.
Thus they needed to sacrifice something that meant their lives or livelihood to them but then He gave to them Deliverance, the Sheep instead and after it was sacrificed, it became Supper. All they actually had to loose was the price of the purchase of a Lamb or the use of tye wool it would have yielded i the future. And if you were of such a mind as to disobey the desires of YHWH then you should permanently loose the use of the treasured animal or suffer being found in the Judging hand of YHWH and suffer His Eternal Wrath.
What everyone that refuses the truth, that the books misnamed as the Old Testament is the Bible that Jesus taught every lesson, found in the misnamed group of books we call the New Testament, from. We must remember the last 27 books are YHWH breathed Life Application Commentaries and are not, in themselves a free standing Bible, in and of themselves but are linked to one another, forver.
I pray this helps your quest.
