What's happening in the world.

This is a live broadcast, not recorded. So that the image may change.

The place of action - the capital of Ukraine, Kiev. This is a peaceful revolution, no official casualties in the last two months.

The president' troops are to the right, they are well skilled special troops. The president opposition is on the left, on the barricades, just regular people.

There seems to be a small christian group just in between the president troops and the barricades. Everybody's on the standby 24 hours.

The news scares me... :neutral

The whole thing does look scary. But it is not as bad as it looks. People will get back to normal work, then get back to the barricades again. Few thousands are continually on the barricades 24 hours, then on weekends they can top to a quoter of a million. It is very strange to see these things live, but media also prevents the dictator from attack. Too many observers.

Anyway, this is a strange world.

I've seen similar situations myself. Did you notice the fires? People don't bring their own firewood. They take park benches or go to nearby construction sites to get things to burn. Even though there was no visible fighting or bloodshed, I don't think it can really be called peacefull when people start stealing things and burning them.

There is nothing new under the sun, as Ecclesiastes suggests.

People fight for their freedom. They will not get freedom even if they win, as I think.

Today, the president offered primeminister and viceprimeminister positions to the opposition, and promised constitutional changes, and amnesty. The opposition denied this offer. This was not what the opposition came for, as I think. I think they are after destroying the whole dictatorship system.

As per broadcast, the opposition was informed of the president forces using the building for possibly reenforcemnt, so that they blocked the building and took it under the siege. They demand for the president forces to come out, take a picture of each of them and send them home. It is quite cold outside (-15C). It was even colder this morning (-25C).

The revolution is still peaceful, i.e. no guns (the president forces use pellet bullets and smoke grenages, the opposition uses fireworks and petrol bombs). So far 5 of the protesters are dead, one is believed to be shot by the president sniper i.e. not a "legal" weapon in this case.

no guns, uhm being trained on less then lethal , those are deadly. at a close enough range a plastic pellet can kill. they are still projected weapons, often fired by shotguns.

I will tell you more. While there exists a requirement that smoke grenades are not allowed to be used closer than 5m to a person, I saw them throwing them straight into the crowd.

And even worse. Some times they use gravel and sticky tape to turn a smoke grenade into a real one. There are many injured. The opposition arranged mobile hospitals. If you use regular hospitals you can easily get arrested. So it is not a fair battle.

its not meant to be. im trained in riot control. while im pro gun rights and always shall be , its would be asinine to expect the government not to use its resources to place its self in a situation to control the people in a riot.

we in America do use less then lethal but its not always possible to have so harmless. people have died from tazers and also pepper spray.

The whole thing started with a group of some 300 students. They came to the street two months ago in support of Ukraine integration in Europe. They were brutally beaten, some of them are still in the hospital.

This triggered some more unhappy people. They ware also brutally beaten. Police picked one of the protestors and undressed him in a freezing weather. The guy went unconscious and was hospitalized. I understand he has recovered in the hospital, and came back, this time to barricades.

People brought helmets, brought masks and made wooden shields, tied cloth around their hands and legs making them less vulnerable to police attacks. They started building barricades using bags filled with snow, making a wall of smoke by burning tires, so that pellet gun fighters cannot see them.

also done in America. I have seen videos of that from abroad and in new York.

BTW, the two ambulance machines in front of the building are called because the protesters were informed that some of the police inside are injured. So that they called the ambulance. However the protesters still want the police to walk the path of shame.

:) the 5 hour siege ended peacefully.

The ~150 police escaped the building under the siege through the back door, where there were no protesters.
