When a Pastor Realizes His Denomination is Wrong...

Vince

This isn't a joke, because we're dealing with it now. A born-again pastor, having graduated from Bible college, realizes that his denomination is wrong about something. We're not talking about fundamental doctrines here, but major doctrines like eternal security, infant baptism, speaking in tongues, etc.

What does he do?

In my former denominational church, there was a flaw in one of its practices (I'm not sure if it was a bona fide doctrine) that was not there when it was founded. It has evolved over time from council to council. There was a small national core that realized it and voiced it at biennial assemblies. These men and women delegates included pastors and pastoral workers, and as much as they were aware of this flaw, they respectfully worked within the denomination to make a change by voice, and by written papers. Finally, at one assembly it was addressed verbally from the floor, and next, it was addressed by the leadership. The next biennial meeting, a change was implemented.

It is a positive thing to work within the denomination to effect gradual, lasting and meaningful change, and served to strengthen the denomination.

While this is true you need to check what the demonination holds with respect to pastors in the demonination. If they have a set of beliefs that must adhere to then I would suggest you need to be truthful with the questions / problems you have.

It might lead to unemployment and trusting God for a new placement but I believe God is bigger than that and will honour those who are true to what they believe about him.

What does he do?

Simple - if he DOESN'T KNOW what to do - then he shouldn't DO anything - until he DOES know what he's supposed to do.

God isn't deaf, dumb, or blind, and he DOES have the capability to lead us individually into understanding of HIS will in OUR lives. The Enemy, on the other hand Screams anxiously in our ear that: "YOU'VE GOT TO DO SOMETHING - NOW!!!!!!" He's the author of confusion - which is all I see in your question.

Life is long, and there's time to take a deep breath, and seek HIM for direction. What a "denomination" does or doesn't "Officially believe", in most cases, doesn't mean spit - since it's only paradigmatic theology, and the "commandments of men".

Before getting to, "What should he do?" One would need to know if those issues are:

a) In direct contrast to Salvation and the living of same

or

b) conflict of personal interpretation

Though it may seem a minor thing to start with, it could make all the difference in how and what manner in which one proceeds.

Be blessed, Stay blessed!

well, vince, since i dont agree with my church on all issues i should leave? My church teaches the pre-trib rapture. i no longer hold to that. i also lean toward old earth but not in evolution and still believe in the full flood. Big issues to theses guys!

Folks, I appreciate all the helpful answers. In the past, my answer would have been "He needs to resign immediately." But now that it is actually happening...

I agree! Good word.
