When God doesn't convict us

What is God saying to us when he doesn't convict us, is that a good sign or a bad sign?

When God is silent, what does that mean.

What does it look like when God doesn't convict us, is there any stories in the Bible.

Believers and nonbelievers alike.

Do you mean Christians? The Bible says nothing of The Holy Spirit convicting Christians.

Doesn't the holy spirit convict believers of sin?
No, He convicts (convinces, or reminds) Christians of their righteousness in Christ.

In other words, "You are God's, so don't be doing thus and such..." or "Because you are in Christ, act this way....."

I think I got my words mixed up. Let me try this again. He convicts nonbelievers of sin, and convicts believers of righteousness. Am I close.

That is the only way I have found it throughout scripture. The Corinthians kind of stretch that liberty a little, but for the most part, I think that was the message to them also.

Here's the scripture for that that I know....

YLT
Joh 16:7 `But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;
Joh 16:8 and having come, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment;
Joh 16:9 concerning sin indeed, because they do not believe in me;
Joh 16:10 and concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do ye behold me;
Joh 16:11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.

When we didn't believe and were in the world, we were convicted of sin, not believing in the Savior, and are lead to repentance because of the righteousness of the Christ which we see in Him by His work on the cross, etc. We can know that Satan has already been judged and without Christ we would be in the same boat.

I do agree with Willie about how and what we as believers are convicted of. Christ is righteous and we are made righteous in Him. Our behaviors should be a reflection of Him and of our position in Him.

I am not totally sure what you are asking but I will take a stab at it.
One of the Holy Spirit's tasks is to convict the world of its sin.No amount of preaching,pleading or pointing of fingers will bring about the conviction of sin unless the Holy Spirit is at work in the sinner's heart.The most basic sin of our world is unbelief.

Good post here. :)

You make some good points, I do have a good question however.
How does the holy spirit work in a nonbeliever without them knowing it.
The holy spirit hasn't indwelled them yet,
so how does the holy spirit work in them without indwelling them yet.

I don't think it does.God does not hear the prayer of an unbeliever unless it is a prayer of salvation.The Holy Spirit is only in the true believer.

You do know, don't you, that this man was not a believer, and he was speaking to the Jewish leaders as a Jew, himself? And when Jesus ran across him a little later on, and asked him if he believed in the son of God, he said that he had no idea who this son of God was.

So, basically, this verse states that these people all felt God does not hear Gentiles................ which is exactly who almost all of us on this forum would be classified as by the people speaking in this verse.

I'm confused, so the sinners in John 9:31 were unbelievers or believers.
