There is one final thing you should know. This is a Christian forum. As such it has rules. Spreading heresy and confusion is against those rules. If you want to practice white witchcraft or whatever you're into... go elsewhere. I have already notified the moderators about your posts.
Before you even signed up, there was a statement of faith, and rules to post by. I have no doubt you do not belong here.

Wow! Dude, you think I practice "white witchcraft"? Hmmm. . . . maybe I should then. :eyebrow

In all seriousness, this IS an "apologetics" section as well. That means that my being here makes you sharpen your skills, if nothing else. :yes

I think that's about enough bantering from both of you. Please become familiar with our Tos.

Orion. If you have an issue with another member, please use PM's to resolve the issue.
justvisiting, No personal attacks. Keep to the topic, not personalities.

Understood, of course. :wave My banter was playful. :)

So the sacrifice "in our place" was what?

Are you asking why didn't Jesus have to go to hell for all eternity and suffer day and night, like it says those who are going to hell must go through?

Well, according to Christian doctrine (well some denominations, that is), the payment for our sin is an eternity burning in the "lake of fire". If someone pays that payment FOR us, is it a payment if the person doesn't actually MAKE the same payment? Just saying.

Before I continue, I would like to thank you for your kind nature in replying, StoveBolts. It is appreciated. :)

It's not so much the mentality, but more so the state of Israel when they came out of bondage and oppression. Do some study on Holocaust victims or even on the early slaves from the USA. An oppressed people loose a part of their humanity and I find no reason to believe that when Israel was in bondage for 400 years, they had lost a part of their humanity. The fact of the matter is this. If you can kill an animal with your own hands and don't feel something... you've lost a part of your humanity and God wants to reclaim that piece for you...

But you see, it wasn't all about killing an animal and then letting it go up in smoke. Most of the sacrifices were eaten within the community after the fat and other innards were offered to God. God was known to fellowship with them at table. It was a communal event as well.

Okay, here's the reason why I said what I did about their emotion response to killing an animal. I hope you will be able to see where I'm coming from here. Today, we can look upon such a thing AS a horrible thing, but I'm not really sure they did. These ARE the same people who very willing killed many people groups, women and children included with the men they were fighting, and sometimes their animals too. I just don't see them looking at the sacrificial animal with empathy.

However, I agree with you that the animals were eaten. I would get rid of the fat and innards, too!! Ick! :crazy

Hi Orion,

Ooy, there's a mess huh?... I think we addressed part of this once before... I'll try to find the thread and place a link. Hopefully that will cut out a large chunk of your presupposition to the 'murder' that occurred between the nations. As far as the fat and innards, fat represented the wealth and abundance of the land. You didn't see too many fat people or animals... Fat was a blessing (luxury)

As far as the sacrifice and what it was to accomplish is not negated. True, hearts did grow cold, and when the temple sacrifices were wrote and the worshippers hearts were hard, God made it clear that it was not sacrifice that he desired. ;) Simply put, they missed God's intentions.

Can my previous post be responded too, as well? Thanks.

About God "desiring a contrite heart rather than sacrifice", why was it instituted then? This really goes to the point of asking why, if God set it up, that the blood (something temporary and finite) of anything was worth the "sins that are eternal"? I personally feel that God never set any animal sacrifices, but it was something that man set up, and God eventually explained that their efforts were not his desires. . . . and it's probably something that happened a lot in OT writings.

Sorry about the delay Orion.

I'll see what I can do tomorrow... Life is getting hectic, I'll do my best.

Oh, definitely NOT a problem! Real life should always overshadow cyber life. Have a good evening!

Hi Orion,

Remember this thread?

viewtopic.php?f=54&t=32516&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30

Browse over that page and the next and see if that doesn't stir up some questions for discussion. But please, before you stir up more questions (which I think is fair and good), let see if we can't discuss the present topic first and then we can come back to any questions for further discussion on the link posted. :-)

Talk to you later.

Grace and Peace.

Jeff

I remember that topic. . . . . . . You know, it has made me realize that I should really just not "rock you'all's boats" here. You all feel certain in your beliefs. I no longer can.

I'll try to keep the "boat rocking" to a minimum from here on.
