Acts 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
This is how we can track them down, to know those wolves who come in sheep's clothing ( who appear on the outside righteous unto men. Matthew 23:28.)
The fact they are grievous, gives away what they are.
Correction is grievous ( painful, cannot be tolerated) by those who forsake the way (wolves) as the wolves hate reproof and shall die.
That is why God sends His message to the sheep, to His sons, to not despise the chastening of the Lord ( to not see it as grievous)
Proverbs 3:11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:
Proverbs 15:10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
God appealed to Israel, and asked why they had gone far from Him ( to forsake the way) and they walked after vanity, and became vain.
God also said they had given this to themselves, that they forsook the Lord God, after God had even led them.
God told Israel their own wickedness shall correct them, and that it is bitter that they had forsaken God and that His fear was not in them.
God broke the yoke, and burst the bands, and Israel said they would not transgress, when God had planted them a noble vine, a wholly right seed, and turned into a degenerate plant of a strange vine unto God.
God declared, why would Israel plead with God, after all had transgressed against God, and how in vain God had smitten ( chastened) their children, but they received no correction.
Israel said they were innocent, so God pleaded with them because they said they had not sinned.
Jeremiah 2:5 Thus saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
Jeremiah 2:17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, when he led thee by the way?
Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
Jeremiah 2:29 Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the Lord.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
Jeremiah 2:35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
But later in Jeremiah, God t5ells, how all these words shall be spoken to them, but they will not hearken, they will be called to, but they will not answer, as it is a nation that obeyed not the voice of the Lord God, nor received correction ( correction is grievous to those who forsake the way.) truth was perished from them.
Woe to the oppressing city, they obeyed not the voice, they received not correction, they trusted not in the Lord, they did not draw near. The judges are the evening wolves ( grievous wolves entered the flock, after Apostle Paul departed.) the prophets treacherous persons, the priests pollute the sanctuary.
God ordained them for judgement, established them for correction.
Jeremiah 7:27 Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.
28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Zephaniah 3:1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!
2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God.
3 Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
4 Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
Habakkuk 1:12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
Now we know the character of the wolves ( in sheep's clothing/ treacherous persons.)
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
They are backbiters, full of debate, proud boasters, inventing evil things, having no understanding, having no natural affection, they are implacable ( they receive no correction.) and are unmerciful.
Perilous times came because of the implacable wolves in sheep's clothing, who entered among the flock, they are lovers of their own selves, boasters, proud, blasphemers, unholy, without natural affection, covenant/truce breakers, false accusing despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures, not of God, having a form of godliness.
The wolf cant be corrected, neither can they stop being full of debate. They are ever learning, never able to come to the knowledge of the truth ( cant be corrected, cant have humility, or natural affection, or mercy.) and lead silly people with lusts, they resist the truth with corrupt minds, with no morals concerning the faith. ( the faith is through charity, which is not puffed up, full of mercy, not self seeking, believing the truth, not iniquity.)
The deceivers become worse and worse, deceiving, and they are deceived.
But we continue in what we have learned and been assured of, the holy scriptures are able to make us wise to salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. ( the wolves see correction as grievous, as they are implacable.)
Romans 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Finally, no chastening seems joyous, but grievous, but afterwards it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness, unto them which are exercised by it ( despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor be weary, as the wolves, of His correction.)
For this is the love of God ( unlike those hateful wolves) that we keep His commandments, and ( unlike the wolves who forsake the way and see correction as grievous.) His commandments are NOT GRIEVOUS.
Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
