Who is the First Beast of Revelation?

End-time BABYLON was the beast which John saw coming out of the sea in verse 1 of Rev.13.

The "first beast" he speaks of in that chapter is a people of "the ten-horns", whose titles in 11Thes.2 are "man of sin" and "son of perdition".
The "other" beast he saw in verse 11 appears to be the false prophet mentioned in Rev.19:20

Based on the definitions given of BABYLON and the "7 heads" and "10 horns" in Rev.17, here is my interpretation of Rev.13.

I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw BABYLON rise up out of the sea, having peoples, nations, and tongues of all 7 continents, as well as the people of the 10-horns.. And BABYLON gave the people of the ten horns their power, and seat, and great authority.

And I saw an earlier time in Babylon's history when the people of the 10-horns were emotionally wounded and beaten down, as though they were wounded to death.
But then I saw that their wound was healed, and an image had been created of him. And, I saw the whole world idolizing them, and following their progress.

And God's people worshipped BABYLON which gave power unto the ten horns, and they worshipped the ten horns saying, "What other people is like them?", and "Who's able to go against them?"

And the ten horns continued through the 42 months of tribulation to accuse and speak blasphemous words against God's people of BABYLON,

And ALL whose names were not written in the Lamb's book of life, worshipped the people of the ten horns.

If any man has an ear, let him hear this.
"He that leads others into captivity to the ten horns, shall himself go into captivity to them, and he who slaws one of them must likewise be slain."

And I saw a false prophet rise up from among them, and he exercised the power and right of the ten horns to protest.
And he did wonders for his people by way of the powerful speeches and fiery sermons which he delivered.

And he deceived God's people of BABYLON by way of those speeches and sermons, and he convinced them to make an image of the ten horns because of the wound they had suffered.

And he taught the people of the ten horns to speak up for themselves, and to destroy all who would not honor them.

And he caused ALL of BABYLON to accept the people of the ten horns in their workplaces and in their places of education, so that none was able to stay in business except he that had accepted the ten horns.

Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the ten horns, for it's the number of a nationality of "man", and his number is 600, 60, and 6.

Nothing like having your thoughts echoed back three times, Regis.

The four beasts of Revelation are the four empires that have ruled over Israel.
1)Babylon
2)Medo-Persians
3)Greeks
4)Romans

The Book of Revelations will never be anything more than a source of confusion, conjecture, and endless, fruitless debate until you understand three things about that Book:

1) It is the revalation of Jesus Christ. (First 5 words of the book) Beyond all else, and before anything else, it is a revealing of the person of Jesus. That part has to be recognized first.

2) It has been "signified" (presented or given in symbols and figures). Check the second half of the first verse. Trying to interpret this book literally will produce nothing useful.

3) It is written to, for, and about Israel. By Israel, all twelve tribes are brought into context here, not just the Jews. Applying it to anyone else is an exercise in futility.

I would add a 4th, when were the events to take place:

Rev 1:1 A Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him to declare to His servants things which must shortly come to pass. And He signified it by sending His angel to His servant John,

Rev 1:3 Blessed is the one who reads and hears the Words of this prophecy, and the ones keeping the things written in it, for the time is near.

Ignoring the time indicator can lead to any type of interpretation.(see Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye, etc....)

Very worthy point to be made, Preterist. Thank you for making up for the part I lacked in.

Speak for yourself, bigguy. It's not at all confusing to me!....especially Rev.13! ;-)

I would strongly urge you to stop feeding from the troughs of those false prophets.
They have nothing to offer except a smorgasboard of confusion.

I only have a few minutes

Preterism teaches that Revelation was written against the old Roman Empire

Daniel 7 forecast a revived Roman Empire for this climax generation of all history

3 times, it is prophesied there to crush, devouir & trample victims - till 'the Ancient of Days' crushes it

It is only in our time that man has all the techno for the global Big Brother of Revelation 13:15-18 & for the global thermonuclear holocaust of Joel 3, Zechariah 14 Revelation 16 etc - see:-

http://www.christianforums.net/viewtopi ... ht=#303892

Hal Lindsey, Tim La Haye etc truthfully point that out

& the fact that, when Rev 9 prophesied 200 million oriental troops - ('the kings of the east' who attack Israel via a dried-up R Euphrates in Rev 16)- the whole world population was less than 200 million

But in 1961, Chairman Mao boasted that China could field 200 million militia 'at the drop of a hat'

Revelation 9 (New International Version)

1The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. 2When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss.

3And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. 4They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man.

6During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.

7The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. 8Their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. 9They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. 10They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.

11They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.[a]

12The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.

13The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the horns of the golden altar that is before God. 14It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates."

15And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. 16The number of the mounted troops was two hundred million. I heard their number.

17The horses and riders I saw in my vision looked like this: Their breastplates were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow as sulfur. The heads of the horses resembled the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke and sulfur. 18A third of mankind was killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur that came out of their mouths. 19The power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails were like snakes, having heads with which they inflict injury.

20The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and woodâ€â€idols that cannot see or hear or walk. 21Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Footnotes:

Revelation 9:11 Abaddon and Apollyon mean Destroyer.
Revelation 9:13 That is, projections

Just time to say that verses 3-10 are the most amazing vision of modern military helicopters spraying biochems outa the back, so crew not affected: with the sun shining on 'em, you see the pilot's human face & the sun's glow looks like a lion's mane, the whirling chopper blades make a loud roar & can look like long hair blowing, etc

USA developed such a spray in the '70s - 'like a scorpion sting lasting 5 months' - normal scorpion stings don't last 5 months

Must go!

Daniel 7 forecast a revived Roman Empire for this climax generation of all history

Show me the verse that speaks of a Revived Roman Empire. Daniel speaks of 4 beasts not 5 and speaks of 4 kingdoms not 5. The Revived Roman Empire is a creation of dispensationalists and has no foundation in scripture.

Hal Lindsey, Tim La Haye etc truthfully point that out

:hysterical:

& the fact that, when Rev 9 prophesied 200 million oriental troops - ('the kings of the east' who attack Israel via a dried-up R Euphrates in Rev 16)- the whole world population was less than 200 million

200,000,000 horseman require 200,000,000 horses don’t they? Read a literal translation of that passage.

Right out of Hal Lindsey’s “Late Great Planet Earthâ€.

Ben, may I ask a favor? Change your avatar.
Please? Please? Pleeeeease?

No. But thank you for asking.

It is one of two Avatars I use no matter where I go. I have used them for a very long time; well, as long as I have been surfing the net. I could use the other one, but I see no need to change.

What I like about this one is the detail in the reflection in the eye. It was created because of the Dune series. Messiah is the book. To make the story blasphemously short: The astronaut gets stranded on the streets of Jerusalem. Jesus looks him straight in the eye and says "Blessed are your eyes for they see the things they do." This little graphic was created from that part of the book.

I don't want to be rude. But I care not if you don't like my avatar. I ain't changin' it.

It is strangely curious that you would want me to change it, though.

Catholics or the One world Government forming. European Union. Catholics are showing exception of Muslims. Perhaps the Anti Christ will spawn from Muslims. They are growing in number in Europe. Europes European Union be the Beast. After the rapture, being there is a one world currency they force all to wear chip implants for money transactions marked after EU. Mark of the beast = EU. My guess.

It is my understanding that the Jewish interpretation of endtime events calls for a Christian to come into the temple and proclaim that he is the Messiah that was predicted to come...

That makes sense because the False Messiah is not an anti (against) Christ, but rather a replacement Christ. The Messiah as presented in Pauline Christianity is much different than the Jewish Messiah of OT prophecy.

If a Christian leader comes into the Temple and proclaims himself Messiah according to NT (paulinist) standards, he would be a false Christ.
