Who is the Man Clothed in Linen?

westtexas said:
I agree they are sent by God but there is no deception involved. In ch 8 God told Ezekiel of the sins of Jerusalem. In ch9 God told Ezekiel of the destruction of Jeresulam for these sins.

8:18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them. (KJV)

God showed his infinite mercy and sent the man in linen ahead and put his mark on them. Ezek 9:4 and then the 6 men followed him through the city and destroyed the unrighteous. Ezek 9:5-6

And I agree with everyone else there are 6 men wielding weapons of slaughter and 1 more among them for a total of 7

  • Jeremiah 46:20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.

3. The linen garment this man wears is part of the deception. Part of his pretending to be Christ. It is probably the same event as written in....

  • Revelation 6:2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
He wears linen, is given a crown and rides a white horse...as the true Savior, but he is the fake.
Joseph, who is one of the 12 sons of Jacob, is sold by his brothers to traders who were going to Egypt. Though sold as slave to the house of Potifer, Joseph is dilligent in all he does and God blesses Joseph. Over a period of several years, being in prison and eventually appointed guard of the prison house, Pharaoh has a couple dreams he does not understand. Joseph is called to interpret the dreams...and goes from being in prison to being 'next to the king' of/in Egypt.

Interesting is the relationship of the King of Egypt to Joseph.....

  • Genesis 41:42-43
42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand,
    and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him [Joseph] ruler over all the land of Egypt. KJV

Here, Joseph is wearing 'fine linen', provided by the KING of EGYPT. With this 'fine linen' he rides around in the king's chariot and all the nation is 'bowing the knee'.... :shades
...

Yes, The wearing of linen, is deceptive as it is worn by both factions. It demonstrates how Satan will pretend to be Christ. In Exodus we're shown.....

  • Exodus 39:27 And they made coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons,

Of the priest...not all are of God. We also have the story of Lazarus and the rich man...the one not in the bosom of Abraham was wearing linen.....

  • Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

Linen, as well as being associated with Jesus and the saints, is worn by Babylon....

  • Revelation 18:16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

I thought he was Christ, or a representative...angel, of Christ too but for various reasons I no longer do.

I agree that the "six men" are sent by our Father. It isn't that there are six and then another...the one placing the mark, but there are a total of six. Six is the number of the beast.

It is a mark of salvation as the six, those with the "number of his name" can't touch them. The slaying they do is spiritual in nature. It is deception. It is our time of being proven. Those marked that can't be touched are those with His truth.

The deception, what I see as Satan's slaughter weapon, is his being clothed in linen. All part of him pretending to be the Savior. He arrives at the sixth trump...which could be, "He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice." And then, the six men came forward. [9:1-2]Is that a sounding of the sixth trump? I don't know.

I don't see that it can be a deception.
This portrays the man in linen being sent by God...in mercy to mark His own.
And he is "among" the other six...not one of them. IMO.

Everything Satan does is with deception to keep you from God. To have you worship him instead, even if it is unknowingly.

  • Deuteronomy 11:16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

The man in linen is sent by God. Satan is the servant of God. Here we have a type of Satan, the king of Babylon......

  • Jeremiah 25:9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

I must disagree in the question of six or seven men. To me it states that six men came forward and one among them (one of the six) was clothed with linen.

  • Ezekiel 9:2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's linkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.

Ez. 9 said:
3And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side; 4And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. 5And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
Ez 10 goes on...which speaks of the wrath of God poured out.
[quote:119bq3ig]2And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight.
[/quote:119bq3ig]

Is that the "wrath of God?" Does God's wrath just spill on the city? When does God's wrath spill? Satan first spiritually slays those he can, those not sealed to God. He deceives them with false doctrine, false tradition, a false christ. They will be spiritually dead...as many are now. At the end of that time, at the seventh trump.....

  • Revelation 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

Revelation 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

Revelation 6:2 is about Michael. A white horse symbolizes victory, and the single crown is a crown of life. You should also note the bow with no arrows. Yahshua has many crowns and a white horse. Yahshua has a bow and calls for many arrows.

I'm glad you see the difference in the two riders but I disagree that the first rider is Michael. It is Satan. The crown "given unto him" allows him power over the world, allows him to deceive.

  • Luke 4:6-7 And the devil said unto Him, "All this power will I give Thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If Thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be Thine.

The bow the first rider carries has no arrows as it isn't a weapon.

When first reading [9:2] I thought that one of the six, the "one man among them was clothed with linen" was Christ like, perhaps one of His messengers. Then I realized it is Satan, the same "angel of death" that took the firstborn.

I meant to point this out before...perhaps this is why you think it's a deception of satan.

The angel of death that took the firstborn was from God...a destroying angel.
Ex. 12:12-13 said:
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
[quote="Exodus 12:23":1p7tv97a] For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
[/quote:1p7tv97a]

That is as how it will be again. God's children can't be touched....Satan passes through and slays, spiritually slays.

What is the role of Satan in our flesh life? Why doesn't our Father simply do away with him? He is the servant of God and does his job quite well.

  • Deuteronomy 13:3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Whirlwind, I'm having a little trouble with your view of satan.
God does not use satan to do His bidding, He has a whole host of angels to do that.
When satan claimed power had been given him, he was lying.
He knew it and Jesus knew it. God does allow satan to do certain things, but He does not send him out to do His bidding. That is why the six men and the man in linen were not from satan, but were sent by God. God has always ruled in the kingdom of men, and He uses the ungodly to work His will. It is God who is in control...not satan. Satan was cast down at the cross and can no longer accuse the saints before the throne. We need only resist him and he flees.

I have to disagree with your view of Satan here. The purpose of a servant is to serve and to bring something positive to his master. Whether it be in our walk with our Lord, at work or wherever as servants we are to bring something positive to our master. The only purpose of Satan is to TAKE AWAY from the kingdom of heaven and TAKE AWAY from the glory of our Lord Jesus.
I think that you give Satan far to much credit when you call him a servant of God. I am sure Satan and his angels are cheering right now, "We did it! We decieved another one!"

So we must ask, knowing the answer already...are all those of the priesthood of God?

Revelation 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.'

Was he? Satan has the power of "this world" but we, His children, are not of "this world."

12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
He knew it and Jesus knew it. God does allow satan to do certain things, but He does not send him out to do His bidding. You must show me where there is mention of seven men or of six and an additional man. Because the one in linen wore linen doesn't tell us he wasn't of the six men that came from the higher gate.

God is in control but he allows satan his hour in "this world."

  • Luke 22:53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

Ephesians 6:12 (666) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

I do agree that, "We need only resist him and he flees." Wearing the "whole armour of God" enables us to resist him....truth conquers.

But it isn't "my view" WestTexas. I supplied a scripture showing the king of Babylon as His servant. To me, the "purpose of a servant" is, as you stated, to serve...are we to decide what is good or bad for Him, what He wants to accomplish? If Satan deceives some we must consider that God wants this deception to go on, wants this testing of His children for a purpose...Satan fulfills that. [Deuteronomy 13:3] He does "take away from the kingdom" those that can be taken away.

As Ret pointed out in an above post...there are two sides of the equation...good/bad, dark/light, etc. Satan brings about the negative part of the plan.

Instead of believing I am deceived please ask yourself....as we know that God is in complete control of all things at all times.....how does Satan have power on his own to do what he does? Is he stronger than God? Does he keep souls from God because God can't stop him? Of course not so....I submit, God allows him this power just as He gives us power to overcome. This battle is what this present age is all about. The choices we make.

He did change but realize he was not Satan himself but was a type for Satan who is the anti-christ. One and the same. Historically the king of Babylon took the house of Judah captive as the one he is a type for today holds Judah captive. Historically, the king of Assyria (another type for Satan) took captive the house of Israel, (today's Christians) where they remain today. Captive to their deception.

  • Isaiah 10:5 O Assyrian, the rod of Mine anger, and the staff in their hand is Mine indignation.

10:24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

14:25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

30:31 For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod.

The rod the Assyrian "smote" with was, "the rod of Mine anger."

How the chosen Scriptures accomplish that is by showing both factions wear linen....not just God's children. The deception is in that fact. Satan's workers pretend to be of Christ.

Matthew 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Satan can deceive, but he can't slay. Those who don't believe are dead in their sins already.
The man in linen is putting the mark of God on the believers, so when God pours down His wrath they'll be protected.

The principles of life and death as set forth in Romans 7 are very important in the understanding of these forms/symbols of Ezekiel and in the Revelation.

Romans 7 is a mystery and as we bathe in it again and again, the Spirit works the grace of God in our hearts and minds deeper and deeper as more and more repentance is given unto us.
