who nailed Him ! ?

Who did we can not be sure but scripture says He was nailed to the cross and because of that I accept He was nailed to the cross.

the words tell us exctly who and the answer to His prayer which was answered , they were forgiven and blest - twinc

We all did. And if you thought you didn't once bare responsibility, then you probably just don't remember how vile we all are before salvation.

be reasonable - we were not even around - who actually drove the nails into Him and the cross ? - twinc

What does it matter? Seriously. You already know the answer to your question, so why not fill us in on the significance of knowing who physically put Jesus on the cross?

Just because Jesus requested that God forgive them does not mean they were actually forgiven. The only examples in the bible of people being forgiven was when they displayed repentant hearts.

"Father, forgive them, for the know not what they do." was a request, not a demand.

The Roman soldiers crucified Jesus Matthew 27:27-37.

ah ha Kathi - here is the answer not just to this question but to a lot else also - not only was my post misread but also misinterpreted as was scripture itself leading in the most serious cases to blaming and hating Jews who would in fact have had Jesus as their King and ran before Him with palms singing hosannas - the Roman soldiers did not know or accept that they were nailing a King of Kings - this we know for sure since Jesus' prayer was answered and also blest for Rome became the bastion of Christianity -- twinc

How does Rome becoming the center of the Christian world equate to God forgiving the soldiers for nailing Jesus to the cross? I agree, they probably had no idea, or cared, about who they were crucifying. They were just following orders. Some may have come to Christ afterward, but based on the passage indicating when Jesus was crucified we cannot assume that anyone was actually forgiven at that time.

Does Isaiah 53:10 have any bearing on this?

Yet it pleased YHWH to bruise him; He has put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, . . ."
This suggests to me that the Roman soldiers were merely instruments in Yahweh's hand to fulfill His plan of salvation. Yet, they were not the only instruments used.

Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you [men of Israel] have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Acts 2:23

You are thinking to hard on this.It was done and it was God's will.We can not take these things and try to solve them with human minds.

I didn't have to think much. The Scriptures already solved it for us. I don't like studying Scripture superficially.

God from the very foundation of the world had already designed that Jesus would be nailed to a cross (as that was how one was crucified to death in that time period) as our kinsmen redeemer that through His life, death and resurrection Jesus would make atonement for our sin that through Him we can be reconciled back to the Father by Gods grace and mercy.

A most excellent answer. :)

I read the original question to my nine yr old grandson. He said the Roman soldiers nailed Him to the cross but it was God who really did it.
I read him your post. He said, "I didn't know Isaiah 53:10 yet. I only know Isaiah 53:1-6."
