Re: WHO reads books??

I realize you're simply being facetious. ;) But, I have always enjoyed reading. When one reads (as opposed to watching visual entertainment), one has the opportunity to put the work aside and think about it, absorb it, question it or research it. Visual entertainment leaves you less opportunity because if you stop and walk away, the story moves on without you. :)

It allows the "mind's eye" to create in the imagination what is already prepared for you on television or film. Yes, I like exercising my mind in that fashion! :)

Re: WHO reads books??

I love books. I think the possibility of paper books becoming obsolete, taken over by electronic devices, would be a horrible thought!

a friend does at work and while i have no need for an ipod, i will buy one when needed, in combat a book is easier to use than an ipod as and ipod needs to recharged whereas a book can be just opened and read.

ipods rock, you can get all sorts of audio books on them. Well really you can on the PC and any other MP3 player, technology is awesome. But if books weren't popular why can buy them for the ipod as well? No matter how technological the world gets book reading will never go out of style. Of course nothing wrong with hearing a book read either except when you read it yourself the characters sound like what you want them to.

People who enjoy reading books read books.

But really, how is challenging your mind, imagining a story inside your head instead of mindlessly looking at a TV, and/or increasing your intellect/vocabulary a waste of time?

lol :lol

I actually kinda think the idea of reading them in like the electronic form is clever---less space taken up in your carry-on!---but my eyes burn after staring at a screen for too long! And listening to people read....eh. Reading aloud has its place, but I read so much faster in my head....

I heart books :)

To me, books are preferable to other forms of amusement in that they develope your character, and they sometimes contain good value judgements that you won't find in movies and videogames. However, thanks to the latest techological advancements and crazes, our latest generation will either become the stupidest or the most educated.

Spelling skills are also a result of reading.

I read the book then if it's a good one I'll buy the audio book.
My job is rather tedious so I listen to audio books at work and read at home.

It can be. :yes Apparently not for me though, spelling is the only area of school I have ever struggled with, and I'm still not the great at it.

You’re right. I’m too busy to read books. I’m too busy counting my money. I don’t see how an iPod will help me do that, though.
