Why are non-Christians members of CF.net?

Ok, first of all, I'm not being confrontational :)

I noticed that there are some non-Christians here that have high post counts. It got me to wondering...why exactly are they here? Don't get me wrong; I'm glad they are. As in real life, I welcome all viewpoints and types.

But I am curious. Because non-Christians being members of this forum would be like me being a member of a physical fitness forum :D There is a non-sequitur there somewhere... :yes

Your thoughts?

Most of them are educated and well read, so it makes for good conversation. In the past some used to be Christians and had family that still was, so they feel comfortable talking to Christians. Some may want to prove Christianity wrong and just maybe, some are wrestling with the problems and emptiness of atheism and come here for answers.

Just my 2-cents worth and my thoughts. I personally see no problem with a non-christian being here,(1) it gives us a chance to share our faith, (2) many tough questions are asked by non-christians and it makes us study a little harder to give solid biblical answers and strengthens our faith. (3) And I like to argue HAHAHAHA just kidding! If your asking why they are allowed here I guess that's a question for a Mod.

Now it's my turn to ask a question. What is a non-sequitur? (I'm to lazy to google it) I didn't know Texans could talk fancy like that :lol

Sounds confrontational, would be a good place for a non-believer to go to seek God. Pending on more hospitable thoughts being shared.

:rolling :rolling :rolling :rolling I hear ya man!

I think it may be because deep down they know there is a Spiritual void in their lives. Some of them probably are much the same as I was before I was a believer. First, you have to contend with God...then you have to give in. It's part of the process that the Spirit of God uses in conviction.
Sometimes, mankind just has to have it out with God, to awake to the truth. I just wish they would take it easy on the ones, that have found it. :lol

I would think non-Christians would join the forum mostly to either know more about Christianity, try to put down Christianity or to spam the boards :D.

I see no problem with them being here, unless they are causing disruptions to the piece (as stated in the ToS). But this is the same for any member - they can be here unless they disrupt the peace. (or are spammers :lol).

It gives us an opportunity to share Christ's love with them, and can strengthen our own faith by it being tested by these non-Christains as well.

Coming from a Mod point of view...similar reasons really.

They all have varied views for being here. Some are here to convert us, some are here just to give us a hard time, some are here out of genuine curiosity, and there are other reasons I'm sure.

I like them here, it strengthens my faith and hopefully we can help them along the way. Either that or kick their butt. :D

Because when you spend most of your time on left leaning boards, you end up jut agreeing with everyone. I came here for an alternate view of issues. Christians I knew before I left had a sense of welcoming, so I don't mind hanging out with Christians on boards and with friends.

And we don't mind you hanging around and telling you where to shove your leftist views, lol. :D

I'm here because of the problems and emptiness associated with my disbelief in.. which forum is this? Oh yeah.. God. Your God.

I'm here for DaveSlayer.

I have no problem having non christian members on the forum, but I do have a but!!!! When the non christian post topics that seek to dis-credit our faith or cause confontation. I feel we need to nip it in the butt and stand up for what this Christianity and not allow that specific topic. It does no good to get worked up about things when the intention is to get us worked up.

It is a blessing of God Himself to have strangers come to us.
I want His heart in me. How can I grow without challenge?
Now that's maybe another non-sequester also because it's a very selfish reason.

:amen

And yes, I do like puns and irony and want to be like Christ. That's why.
To me it was a long time ago, during a time of trial, that I took comfort by reading the book of Job.
It's possible to find a very practical definition from that book for what "Righteousness" is.
Knowing that we were once "strangers" too and treating others with kindness <*asking the Lord to pardon my unfaithfulness here as I strive to preach the truth without watering it down and getting convicted myself*> is a command and a privilege. Yes?

I guess my thought is that since I love you guys and know that I get comfort and real benefit from rubbing shoulders with the Saints of God then why should I deny others this?

Okay, maybe it's more selfish for me but then again maybe it's because we do hear from our Father who does love beyond our capacity and desires us to also put away the things of the flesh and truly seek to live life as He authors and completes us for every good work. I think this.

If "they" point out my failings and I pray about it and am convicted and derive benefit then Oh!, maybe we call this "Good"; if "they" are appreciative and simply enjoy the company of those who are trying to be like Christ? I was and in part still am "they", aren't I? I still struggle with the flesh and want to be more closely involved with the Spirit of God. So in a sense, I am still "them". Yes, Jesus gives me His righteousness and Yes! He is my salvation but that doesn't relieve me of the desire to grow in peace and grace toward all men. Then I think that God counts it <the Love of Christ shown to others - even from "non-Christians" too> for the benefit of both the Christian and the Non-Christian alike. There's lots of stuff that I don't understand. This morning I'm simply very thankful for being allowed to keep company with the Saints who have been called and are being sanctified here.

No, not at all. I understand why they are allowed (and am glad they are). I guess my question was more, 'Why would they want to hang out here?', and I already got some answers on that.

Well from what I can figure is that most atheists were christians or muslims or some other religion before they made the decision that the Lord had nothing for them. However, it might be true that not all non christians or religious people are atheists but like to hang out with folk of good hearts, without the cold steel knife of critical thinking.
Not all of my mates are Christian souls but we get on fine; they seem to enjoy my company anyhow. I don't see it much different if they hang out with me in real life or chat with me on here if they want to.
Still at times from their point of view, so it seems, I mights as well be a Mormon boy on a bicycle or a Jehovahs Witness kid handing out magazines: I get flack but learn to laugh and roll with the punches. :amen :readbible

I once had a man write me that it's because he can hear our current 'arguments' and work out ways to improve on his own. I wouldn't say that's everyone's motive, but it's probably pretty common.

The thing about that is... the Christian will come up with a rebuttal so it's rather fruitless :shrug

1) They wish to understand Christianity with a better grasp, and this is done by interacting with Christians
2) They wish to impart their knowledge onto people who perhaps have not been exposed to that knowledge due to lack of education
3) They wish to interact with other people, discussing relevant issues and ideas to gain or impart knowledge

--------------

It wouldn't be much of a discussion if everyone was like "I agree." "Yes I agree. Praise Christ." "Christ be Praised." Thats not a discussion of any kind at all; discussions hold viewpoints from every angle and every facet of perception.

I'd say it's my motive. I love arguing, you can learn a lot from it if done properly.
