Why are you Christian

No one is born an atheist.

A new born does not have enough information to be fooish enough to reject God.

Psalms 53:1 To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

No one is born a Christian.

You must be born again.

John 3

i think what he means is, everyone is born a sinner maybe? we are born into this sinfull world... needing a savior?

I am a Christian because the word was preached to me, and I accepted Gods word through his son Jesus Christ.

Most people who truly question the validitity of the bible, and actual "mysticism" and "magic" often turn out to become atheists or agnostics. Yes, some do convert back, but a majority that become atheists, stay atheists.

Only true from your perspective. Isn't it ironic...
(concepts and versed taken from "A call for Discernment" by Jay E. Adams, boy am I getting some milage out of this book today)

Acts 17:10-11 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming there went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Yes, here we have some of the noblest in the time of Jesus searching the scriptures daily for truth... to see if they were so. In other words, to see if scripture agreed with the gospel. And what was their findings??

Acts 17:12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honorable women who were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

Now, we also had another group searching the scriptures. The Pharisees. Now, what's the difference between the Pharisees and the Bereans? One group was looking for truth, the other was looking for error... Here's what Jesus had to say. (for the sake of space, read the chapter)

John 5:39-40 Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And you will not come to me, that you might have life.
John 5:46-47 For had you believed Moses, you would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe my words?

That is not the definition of an atheist...

Merriam Webster

Main Entry: athe·ist
Pronunciation: 'A-thE-ist
Function: noun
: one who believes that there is no deity

The biblical definition of atheist.

Psalms 53:1 To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. :smt023

what it is that makes you so certain that Christianity has got it right, what made you choose it and the bible over say Islam or paganism? as they all have the same amount of physical evidence. Also to those who are Christian have you always been Christian or are you a convert?

I was drawn by the Holy Spirit at a very young age. My father was an atheist, but allowed me to attend sevices near our home. The faith (or certainty) is not mine, but a gift of God. The more I study the Bible, the more I understand how everything in it is an arrow simply pointing to Jesus Christ. Scripture is true, and the principals that God has in it are very applicable to my life. Even those who do not believe, but practice those principals, are naturally blessed by them. God's wisdom is infinite.

I know I see this only because God has revealed Himself to me...opened my eyes Himself. I could not have believed it otherwise. I know that if God had not intervened in my life, I would most certainly be an atheist. Without a personal relationship with Him, I would doubt anyone who told me they "knew" He was truly God. But, in God's great mercy...I have been planted by the waters of life, and drink them fully into my soul. I would not trade my faith, and salvation in Christ, for anything in this world. I believe because I have met Him, have had my spirit touched, and consumed, by Him. I love Him because He first loved me, and the sweet gospel story has shone me how great a love that is. For this purpose alone, I am dedicated to my King, His kingdom, and His laws. It is the free gift of grace that has caused me to follow Christ as my Saviour. The Lord bless you.
