Why didn't God give us His written word in English?

It seems like an egocentric question, but I will bite. What is the problem with God's word being translated into English?

Remember, all language is in constant transition. The English of 1000 years ago is a foreign language.

He also sent translators and scholars.....But the Hebrew is a great language and for those who trully study it,,,, know there has been a lock placed on it that no man can change the scriptures if one understands article and particle......This safeguard was put in place by God through Ezra and Nehemiah,,,im not so sure you can do that with english.....

It just seems like a lot of trouble.. So much confusion and differing opinion of what truly is His Word.

Yeah,,,but those that seek it will be opened unto them,,,,I really never had any problems understanding the word,,,,some things take time but for the most part its really simple,,,,alot of the confusion comes from those who have attempted to change scriptures for personal gain,,,,,but again the Hebrew clears this up for you......

God needed his word relevant for the current time, Bebrew and Greek, he most likely knew technology would advance and allow for translation to be rather easy 1400 years later.

It would be a burden for the Jews to have an English bible 300 years BC vs. us just translating is for our self in 1400

Greetings,

You could say God created language -- but it is unlikely that English was spoken by Adam and Eve. The confusion at the tower of Babel was a 'restraint' or jugdment God imposed on man's united ambition.

While English has a high standing (if not the highest) as a language in the world, the fact remains that most of humanity either don't speak it or only speak it as a second language. At a guess the number of native English speakers worldwide is probably around 400 million.. Does anyone have more accurate figures? In view of the above ( and the transitional nature of language already mentioned ) I find the claim by some AV advocates to double inspiration extraordinary.

Yes, whether it was originally written in Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, English, Swahili, or whatever. The language is not the problem, the interpretation is. There will always be "confusion and differing opinion" because that's the nature of interpreting the written word, no matter what the language.

That's my point.

He does give it in english...or russian...or chinese.

It's written on our hearts! The book itself is not the word. It is the representation of the word. Do you think if the Bible disappeared from Earth tonight and we were all rendered dumb no one else would come to God? :crazy

So, what's the solution? is there one?

we must trust that God took control and over saw what King James and his scholars where doing, God has the power to intervene and control enough things to make SURE what we have in English be it KJV or NIV or NKJV it is in fact his Word and man cannot corrupt it as Satan wants you to think it has been.

Yes, there is a simple solution to that. We should be reasoning the Bible in overall context. We should not be nitpicking and fighting and debating small details and making the Bible complicated. God is not God of confusion.

They make it harder than it has to be! Yes!! So simple and so true. :-)

This doesn't speak to the problem of the literally THOUSANDS of different interpretations,(and the associated doctrines) that well meaning people see within the SAME Scriptures. I agree with you, Scripture is inspired and we have an accurate text, guided by God.

I don't think it's simple at all.

We should be reasoning the Bible in overall context.

I'm sure if you asked the people who interpret Scripture differently than you do, and come to different conclusions due to that interpretation, they would say they are doing just that.

We should not be nitpicking and fighting and debating small details and making the Bible complicated.

If they are so small, why is the "church" so divided?

God is not God of confusion.

No, He's not. He gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us to all Truth and that Spirit works through the Church Jesus founded, not through personal, subjective Bible interpretation.
