Why Do Christians Try To Fix Sin With Human Wisdom?

From the study notes of Pastor Jimmy Swaggart

Paul said:

“For Christ sent me not to baptize
(presents to us a Cardinal Truth), but to Preach the Gospel (the manner in which one may be saved from sin): not with wisdom of words (intellectualism is not the Gospel), lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect. (This tells us in no uncertain terms that the Cross of Christ must always be the emphasis of the Message.)

For the Preaching (Word) of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness (Spiritual things cannot be discerned by unredeemed people, but that doesn’t matter; the Cross must be preached just the same, even as we shall see); but unto us who are saved, it is the Power of God. (The Cross is the Power of God simply because it was there that the total sin debt was paid, giving the Holy Spirit, in Whom the Power resides, latitude to work mightily within our lives.)

“But we preach Christ Crucified (this is the foundation of the Word of God, and thereby of Salvation), unto the Jews a stumblingblock (the Cross was the stumblingblock), and unto the Greeks foolishness (both found it difficult to accept as God a dead Man hanging on a Cross, for such Christ was to them).

“And I, Brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom (means that Paul depended not on oratorical abilities, nor did he delve into philosophy, which was the rage of that particular day), declaring unto you the Testimony of God (which is Christ and Him Crucified).

“For I determined not to know anything among you (with purpose and design, Paul did not resort to the knowledge or philosophy of the world regarding the Preaching of the Gospel), save Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified.” (That, and that alone, is the Message which will save the sinner, set the captive free, and give the Believer perpetual victory [I Cor. 1:17-18, 23; 2:1-2].)

Paul also said, “But God forbid that I should glory (boast) save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (what the opponents of Paul sought to escape at the price of insincerity is the Apostle’s only basis of exultation), by Whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” (The only way we can overcome the world, and I mean the only way, is by placing our Faith exclusively in the Cross of Christ, and keeping it there [Gal. 6:14).)

Ok.I'm not saying you are an idolater, but you define idolatry by using denomination as a definition. So if Swaggart has a church and his followers are in agreement with him 100 percent and others arent. Is that not idolatry?

Matthew 28:20 KJV
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Repent
Death on cross (firstly)
Healed by his stripes
Buried
Arose from dead
Seen of witnesses
Ascended
Sent Holy Spirit
Will judge
Eternally seated on throne

There is so much to teach. Much more than I have knowledge of. Every kindred and tribe (Jew, gentile, weak, strong, male, female, etc.). Our sin nature no more has dominion, but we can not say we have no sin. Peace to those who are nearby, and those who are far off.

Ephesians 2:17 KJV
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Hebrews 4:10-11 New International Version (NIV)

10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

I will see how Jesus finished his work (in Hebrews.

Hebrews 10:12 KJV
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

With my mind I once accept the one time work of Jesus. The battle with my flesh continues till the last trump.

Hebrews 10:10
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

By the will of God we are sanctified (once for all by the work of Jesus)..

My Mississippi mind is strained to see past the dim vision coming through the dark glass, but I am not blind (Jesus died for our sins).

I follow my mind of Christ and not my body of sin. If God has declared someone righteous, I dare not condemn him. The day will reveal the final answer.

Latin root word for religion is bondage, which is different then that of Gods pure religion of James 1:27, but that of following tradition and the doctrine of a mans church, not Gods true Church. The Latin root word is religare as re is a prefix that means return and ligare means to bind. Religion tells you what you can and cannot do and becomes socially acceptable by mans interpretations, traditions and doctrines. Religion is what nailed Christ to the cross because the Bible is not socially acceptable to society, if it were then Christ would have died in vain. God is not about mans religion, nor does he recognize religion. God is about a personal relationship with you and His son Jesus Christ, John 1:1-5.

The biggest deception Satan can use is to confuse the unlearned mind. God said his people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. You forget me and my word and I will forget you and your children. This is a pretty profound statement that holds so much truth. This is why this world is in the shape it is in today with so many religions claiming they are the true religion and only they will go to heaven and those who do not conform to their ways will go to hell, Hosea 4:6-9

The concept of "human wisdom" is a flawed concept because you can't even think about the concept without using some sort of "human Wisdom". Its similar to logic, logic is a collection of tools used to comprehend our surroundings and act on stimuli. Wisdom is using that said logic.

"Human Wisdom" would literally be any application of thought or command, so if you read the Bible and then accept Jesus as your savior, you had to use your own wisdom to use your free will to accept him. It is impossible to not use Human Wisdom. That is why man uses it, because man doesn't have a choice.

Sin is literally an act that goes against the rules of Christianity, so you can't actually fix that. Humans can reject the concept of sin, but that doesn't fix it. People can disagree with Christianity and form a separate ideology, but both still are picked through "human wisdom."

I have been guilty of failing to use logic a few times since my conversion. The mind isn't evil nor is reason.what makes that evil is when you reason for sin.Languages are thoughts expressed.Surely that isn't a sin .

I've matured into the idea that people have a core belief(s) that they center their actions around. Without understanding or examining that belief conversation is next to impossible.

I have also failed to used logic or been blinded in the past, but that helps us grow. Thanks for the response Jason.

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

I thought we were to deliver the widow and orphan from their affliction. To visit a widow or orphan bound in their affliction is just old fashioned religion.

If you seek to do good you will be persecuted / stained by the world (shipwrecked ?).

Sin is literally an act that goes against the rules of Christianity,...
"The rules of Christianity" are not exactly what God has in mind. Sin is (a) the transgression of the Law and (b) whatever is not of faith. In effect sin is whatever goes contrary to the character and nature of God, who is absolutely holy and righteous.
so you can't actually fix that.
Correct. Problems can be fixed, cars can be fixed, but Christians going around trying to "fix" sin would be foolishness. What every believer needs to remember is that (a) all our sins and our guilt were laid on Christ at the Cross, since He was literally "made Sin" for us; (b) while we have the new nature (the spirit) and the indwelling Holy Spirit, our sin nature (the flesh) has not been eradicated. That does not mean that we are helpless, but it does mean that we must "mortify" (put to death) the flesh. The positive aspect is to "walk in the Spirit" or exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.

Is it that Christians do not understand the Cross or are refusing to live under the Cross of Christ?
Romans 10:3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

We fail to understand the prophets, Jesus, the apostles and set about getting the credit for righteousness.

AKA
I Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

He did it; He gets the credit.

We want the credit, but we are not tha author of our faith. Faith in Christ Jesus and not faith in faith, the law, our works, etc.

Humanly Speaking it is impossible. But with God all things are possible.

There is a lot to be said about following God's Word, and following His wisdom. More then just for salvation's sake. And there is quite a bit that has to rely on faith. But you asked why we rely on our wisdom to fix sin. Then you ask it in relation to the cross. Suggesting it's either because we don't understand or don't trust living under the cross.

Here is my answer. Hope it satifies the right question. We try and seek man's wisdom, or our own because we are warned that faith without action is dead. In order to act on some faith, many rely on trying to understand it better, and in that way know how they should act. Or even to try and understand where their heart should be, and what their faith stands on. Some people are well studied and more knowledgable then you or I in both the scripture which we can consult their knowlede about, and as well some are more knowledgeable about sins, the motivations to sin, and avoiding the wrongs before they become an issue.

There is nothing wrong with seeking console. It doesn't mean we have a lack of faith. In fact I think in proverbs there's a verse to suggest it's better to be in the console of many advisors then to only trust in yourself. With that said, the aspect to consider in my opinion is to keep the bible as a higher authority. And not take console or advise that goes against what the bible says.
