It's not so much relating. It's more disappointment. You do something good, you don't partake in certain activities at a party, like drug abuse for example. But then a sibling of yours is let off the hook by your "Godly" parents. This kinda thing angers a lot of young people. We are expected to live up to ideals which aren't always hard, but often are let down by the people who expect those ideals from us.
Hey All,
You are describing "the other brother syndrome," or "elder brother syndrome," Josh2010. Read the prodigal son parable. Luke 15:11-32 (I am not going to post it as it is too long.)
The older brother was angry. He had stayed and received no reward. At least so he thought. He did not see the greater view the father saw.
Are there hypocrites in the church. You better believe it. But see the greater view. You are there as well. Just as the older brother in the parable, you are an example of what to do. You are an example of the believer to those people. They need to see how a believer conducts his/her life; with honor, respect, dignity, in and by the grace we have been given. Being honorable unto God is just your normal way of life. But to the hypocrites, your life is a ministry.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Another thought; remember we are the church. It's not just the building we go to on Sundays. Hypocrites, in the church, is a good thing. The church, among the body of believers, is where they can be healed. Hypocrisy is hard to overcome. You have to face the truth about yourself. (Talk about scary!) Maybe they are there learning how to overcome. Show them by how you conduct your life.
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
I just want you to see your situation from a different viewpoint.
Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz
