Why Worship

Hi The Light. I'm just pasting an answer to your question from "Quora" that may help. If you got something, I'm interested in hearing it. :)
I just did a search and know nothing of the site, but it sounded alright.
Where in the Bible does God demand human worship?

https://www.quora.com/Where-in-the-Bible-does-God-demand-human-worship

“The Scotch catechism says that man’s chief end is “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever”. But we shall then know that these are the same thing. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him.”

I don't think God demands it for His sake but rather for ours. If we worship Him, who is pure, righteous, and just, then we will be focusing on Him and not on other gods which is futile at best.

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. John 4:23 NKJV

What benefit does he draw from it?

What benefit??

> This is spiritual LOVE.

"God is A Spirit", and not just "spirit"< as there are many types of "spirits"., such as "unclean spirits", for example.
So, if your bible states that "God is Spirit", instead of saying..."God is A Spirit", which is a completely distinguishing separation from all other spirits, then your bible has problems......It also probably has problems with 1 Tim 3:16, if it says..."HE who was manifested in the flesh instead of saying """"GOD, who was manifested in the flesh"..
Might want to check that out.

So, i digress.....

See.....God is a specific Spirit, He is the Spirit of HOLINESS, (God's name is HOLY)....and within this, you find the understanding of how God's love manifest's itself.
It manifests itself as Jesus, who is the heart of God, who is Himself God incarnate.
Or as Thomas said..."My Lord AND MY GOD"...., and Jesus didn't correct him, you noted?
"i and my Father are ONE".
"in the beginning was the word", and Jesus IS the Word made flesh.
"all things were made BY HIM", and "him".....is JESUS.
So, worship, is a specific type of holy affection that is being given as praise to our Creator, and He enjoys being loved by us, in this regard.

Everyone wants to be loved, and certainly THE God who IS LOVE< is no different, and as a matter of fact, the reason we have this need to be loved, to be appreciated, is because He is exactly like this, and because WE are "made in the image of God", ..we are like this also.

"in the beginning was the word", and Jesus IS the Word made flesh.

You can say that again. I think that's literal too. He's in our DNA, and our DNA is wired to worship God. No wonder they can't understand most of it and call it junk DNA. They just don't understand. I wonder if partaking in communion changes our DNA to be more like our Lord's? It's a process that takes time, this sanctification/purification process. It might.

Why do you all think God desires human worship? What benefit does he draw from it?
It's not for His benefit.
God needs absolutely nothing so the concept of "benefit" does not apply to Him. (Psa 50:12)
It is WE who need to worship.
We receive the benefit of being united to God, in Christ as His adopted sons and daughters.
We are able to live well by being totally submitted to His will. (our reasonable act of worship - Rom 12:1)
By worshiping God we enter into eternal life.
God doesn't need us.
We need God.

I agree with Kidron. Holy love. I believe that is why humans were created in the first place. The angels were always with God and some wanted to follow Lucifer (for whatever reason). I personally feel God created us because if we can get through this world and worship him................we will NEVER take for granted him in heaven (here now and when when get there in person)

Jim Parker, I like our explanation and how you incorporated what Paul taught in Romans about what worship is. We often overlook this aspect of worship and replace it with the hollywood star-gazing, praise heaping type of worship. It is that second type I was focusing on as it seemingly should be secondary to what is mentioned in Romans 12.

Kidron, I don't know what point you're going for friend. You said a lot, but what was the point; God wanting love and seeing love a sbeing worshipped?

Further Musings.......

We think about the sacrifice on Calvary made by the Lord, but that seems to me to be a small thing compared with sacrificing being the authority in Heaven to live as an ancient human on this tiny little rock in a small star system that's barely noticible in this vast universe. I can barely imagine what it would be like to go back in time and live 2000 years ago as a second class citizen (non-Roman) in a Roman province after living in the age of air conditioning, world travel, the internet, and so many other modern comforts. Just think about what the Lord gave up.
