The devil fell because of his desire to be like God, knowing this, he preached same gospel to the woman "you would be like god", she took it, the man took it.
Does this redefine what sin is? You may not know but the whole world is designed to be independent of God, tuned to SELF for everything. You don't know how deep the corruption is, maybe you'll know that the bible teaches self denial and the world teaches self-esteem and self-dependence, survival, goal achievement. Which do you love more?

Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the word of God, Jesus says you must deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow. How can you, if you do not have an active relationship with him? You can actually be aligned like Christ that says, I do nothing of my own, he says, he that speaks of himself seeks his own glory. You NEED to know him because he defined eternal Life in John 17 to be the knowledge of God and of his Son Jesus. So if he died to give you life, he died that you may KNOW HIM, For in knowledge of HIM grace is multiplied.
