Will America Be Burned?

Now it’s up to 75 nations running to negotiate with the US on tariffs.

But he said more than 75 other countries had appealed to his administration to negotiate tariffs levied on them.
This is what I believe is his end goal; that they come to the negotiating table. We've allowed other countries to take advantage of us for far too long.

I fully agree, WIP. My only concern has been with the timing and the speed, but as Trump himself has said, none of the previous presidents were willing to actually do anything, and as someone else also said recently, he likely realizes that he only has four years to do whatever he's going to do, so he's moving at a very fast pace.

Now it’s up to 75 nations running to negotiate with the US on tariffs.

It's up to Trump to just stop this nonsense. He absolutely does not understand international trade, trade deficits, or tariffs. This is not only supported by his continual pausing of tariffs, but by a number of experts.

'"This formula is insane," Dmitry Grozoubinski, a trade consultant based in Geneva and author of Why Politicians Lie About Trade ... and What You Need to Know About It, told CBC News.

"What they're basically saying is ... what we are going to do is assume that if you are selling a lot more to the U.S. than you are buying from the U.S., you must be doing something unfair," he said.

Countries that buy more American products than they sell to the U.S. weren't spared, either. The tariffs, which affect more than 100 countries, are set at a baseline 10 per cent, even for countries such as the U.K., which has a trade surplus with the U.S."'

"Problem one pertains to President Trump’s lack of basic knowledge of the trade data. He is correct that the U.S. imports more from Canada than it exports to us. But that’s about where his accuracy ends."

It's why islands inhabited only by animals have been targeted for tariffs.

It's why he complained loudly about the deal the U.S. had with Canada when he was the one who renegotiated NAFTA to come up with the USMCA and signed it.

'President Donald Trump took to social media to whine about who negotiated a deal allowing Canada to supply energy to the U.S. — but, it turns out, he made the deal.

Amidst the trade tariffs back-and-forth with Canada and Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who suspended the province’s 25 percent electricity surcharge on three U.S. states Tuesday, Trump fumed on Truth Social: “Why would our Country allow another Country to supply us with electricity, even for a small area?”

“Who made these decisions, and why?” the president demanded.

The decision to maintain the free flow of energy across the borders was part of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement and negotiated by Trump in November 2018 during his first term. It was signed into law in January 2020.'

According to who, exactly, have other countries been taking advantage of the U.S.? Trump?

Amen. Lamps full of oil.
I would agree with JLB on this part. We need to be clothed in the anointing in this time, whether things get back in the short term or long term. :thumbsup
Amen. Yes, to be full of oil we need to go to the sources of oil for the Churches: ->The two Olive Trees with their two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves->the Old Testament and the New Testament. The two olive trees are placed one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. And the bowl is placed upon the top of the candlestick all of gold, with his seven lamps thereon->(i.e. the seven Spirits of GOD-Revelation 4:5, take a look), and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof. -> Many other wonderful biblical concept may added or described about the candlesticks: Jewish Church and Gentile Church->(Revelation 1:20) in one body, body of Christ.

Philippians 3:20-21

20 Our conversation is in heaven->(Ephesians 1:3-8); from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Who shall CHANGE our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.-->Matthew 28:18 combined with John 11:26, and Revelation 22:17, among other biblical references, take a look.
May our Lord GOD bless and keep us, and give us His protection
Amen

Trump, President Obama in 2009 hit China with a 35% tariff, Bernie Sanders (circa 2008), Nancy Pelosi (circa 1996), to name a few.

Will America Be Burned?

Yes, but not only America, but ALL nations. What does the Word of GOD say? The Word is GOD, GOD Himself, Father of the Lord JESUS Christ, Self-executing, Self-executable. When the Word says: Let there be, then there will be, of course, it's the invisible Power. So, what does the Word of GOD say? Around 2000 years ago, our Lord JESUS said: Luke 17:28-30
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;-->(it is exactly what is happening in these last years, the prophecy of our Lord JESUS fulfills LITERALLY. See, it's a PRECONDITION or prerequisite to burn not only America, but ALL nations from now on, understand? Actually, it's a process provoked ou caused by the Word-GOD, He is moving upon the waters, I mean, peoples, and nations, and multitudes of all tongues. By the way, it is having even a TRADE WAR in the world as a whole. By the Word of GOD, all nations will be BURNED with everlasting fire as was in Sodom and Gomorrah, yes, the powerful Word will do this. Be prepared or else get ready, our Lord JESUS warned us about the END of all things like was in Sodom and Gomorrah, as say the verses bellow:
29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30 Even thus shall it be in the Day when the Son of man is revealed. -> This Day arrived, the seventh and last Day or seventh and last millennium.
James 4:4 -> Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with GOD? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of GOD.
Revelation 18:4 - Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Keep in mind - 2Peter 3:7-14
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one Day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one Day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens(heavens?Ephesians 1:3-8) shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ->(Except the things of the 3rd heaven, the next to be established-GOD's Kingdom-Revelation 11:15-18, be prepared or else get ready)
11 Seeing then that all these things SHALL BE DISSOLED, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the Day of GOD(this Day arrived, the seenth and last Day), wherein the heavens(1st and 2nd heavens) BEING ON FIRE SHALL BE DISSOLVED, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens(THE NEXT HEAVEN-THE THIRD HEAVEN-2CORINTHIANS 12:2-4-GOD's KINGDOM) and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
Honour to all. Love the brotherhood. Fear GOD. Honour the King. Amen.

Trump’s Trade Offensive Threatens America’s Financial Primacy

Rising volatility and dollar weakness raise fears of a financial realignment, away from U.S. shores

Financial markets have flashed an ominous message this month about President Trump’s ambitious and improvisational bid to reshape global trade: Be careful what you wish for.

Volatility in Treasury markets and unexpected weakness in the dollar suggest that what began as a trade conflict could morph into a more dangerous “capital war.” The clash threatens to raise U.S. borrowing costs by undermining Washington’s long-standing financial primacy, which for years has drawn trillions of dollars of foreign funds into the country.

"The idea that you can break trade, and not break the capital flow side, is a fantasy," said Steven Blitz, Chief US economist at GlobalData TS Lombard. Market volatility spiked after the president unspooled his fluid and unpredictable trade policy on April 2... A brutal bond-market selloff unfolded, against a backdrop of a weakening dollar, which normally strengthens during bouts of stress. The abnormal combination prompted some analysts to warn about capital flight from the US...

"The behavior of investors changed. Ordinarily they would have bought the dollar in this time of crisis time, and instead they sold the dollar," said Steven Kamin, a former senior Fed economist who is now at the American Enterprise Institute.

There was an interesting dream hawkman sent me in relation to this about six months ago, that the strength of the US dollar was what was keeping the recession and/ or depression flood waters back, and with the dollar weakening, that could spell bad things for the future, especially if foreign funds are increasingly being drawn away from the US instead of to it.

I'll just add the link here.

This is what I believe is his end goal; that they come to the negotiating table. We've allowed other countries to take advantage of us for far too long.
How long has this been going on and why hasn't something been done sooner to fix this problem?

That's a great question just as the question about border protection, particularly on our southern border. Literally, every presidential candidate that I can recall has had trade and border protection as key points in their election campaigns and done little once in office.

Now, particuarly with tariffs, it's to the point where it may be too late to do anything anymore. If we impose counter tariffs on their goods as they have on our goods, they just increase theirs. If we would have reacted immediately when they imposed them in the first place, things would be much different.

It's like raising children. If you don't teach them discipline and self-control starting when they are very young, it becomes nearly impossible the older they get.

Tariff Fallout Begins: Major Companies Slash Thousands of Jobs Citing Rising Trade Tensions

Tariff Fallout Begins: Major Companies Slash Thousands of Jobs Citing Rising Trade Tensions© Provided by Barchart

The trade war is no longer just a geopolitical talking point — it’s now a frontline reality for thousands of workers across North America. In the wake of sweeping new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, a growing list of companies have announced job cuts, operational pauses, and in some cases, full-scale shutdowns. The fallout is cascading through industries as diverse as automotive, steel, consumer goods, and even tabletop gaming.

With thousands already laid off and more cuts expected, many fear the ripple effect from these tariffs could further strain a fragile post-COVID recovery, and threaten the broader North American labor market.

Volvo Group, Stellantis, Cleveland-Cliffs, Sheertex & More

One of the most significant announcements came from Volvo Group (VLVLY), which is laying off between 550 and 800 workers across three U.S. facilities, including Mack Trucks in Macungie, Pennsylvania, and plants in Virginia and Maryland. The company cited sharp drops in demand and production disruptions caused by tariffs on steel and truck components.

Auto giant Stellantis (STLA) — maker of Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep — has temporarily laid off approximately 900 U.S. workers and 4,500 Canadian employees, pausing production at multiple plants across the continent. The layoffs come in response to the administration’s 25% tariff on imported vehicles and auto parts.

Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF), a leading U.S. steel and mining firm, announced the layoff of 1,200 workers across its Dearborn, Michigan steel mill and two iron ore facilities in Minnesota. The company attributes the cuts to slumping demand from automakers and the higher cost of raw materials due to tariffs.

Sheertex, a Montreal-based company known for its unbreakable pantyhose, laid off 40% of its workforce—a decision directly linked to U.S. tariffs on Canadian exports. Compounding the blow is the removal of the de minimis exemption, which previously allowed duty-free shipping for small parcels into the U.S.

In a less traditional but equally telling example, St. Louis-based Greater Than Games has suspended all operations after tariffs of up to 145% were placed on Chinese imports — including game components critical to its products. The move sent shockwaves through the tabletop gaming industry, which relies heavily on Chinese manufacturing for affordability and quality.

Cosmetics titan Estée Lauder (EL) recently announced an expansion of its workforce reduction plan, now aiming to cut up to 7,000 jobs worldwide. The company linked its decision to a slump in Chinese demand and anticipation of reciprocal tariffs that could impact global sales further.

Analysts: This Is Just the Beginning

Industry experts warn that what we’re seeing now could be a prelude to deeper economic challenges. A report from Forbes estimates that over 5.6 million jobs across manufacturing, agriculture, and logistics may be at risk if trade tensions continue to escalate.

As political leaders debate trade strategy on the global stage, the consequences are being felt by workers, families, and small businesses across North America. With companies large and small struggling to adapt, and many caught in the crossfire of retaliatory measures, the tariff fallout is proving to be more than an economic theory — it’s a lived reality for thousands.

Yup, could see a return of the '30s. This was the obvious result that many economists said would happen even before Trump put the first tariffs in place. Yet, he forged ahead anyway.

Here is a video I am currently going through which explains what tariffs are. It also explains why trade imbalances exist and it isn't because other countries are taking advantage of the U.S. I know, that's what Trump says, but the sooner everyone realizes that Trump doesn't know what he's talking about and will say whatever it takes to convince his supporters, the better off everyone will be.

38:38 through 40:40 is interesting, and it highlights the essential problem here IMO. The tariff moves just scared the living hell out of the whole planet, and when you do that to countries they distrust you. They don't know what your motives are, and how well you can be trusted, and when you get SO tunnel-visioned on your own country's welfare, it can have adverse psychological effects on everyone else.

I think this was a point I was making early on. The plan was SO focused on rebuilding US manufacturing with sort of this... go stick it ti yourself posturing, that we are losing friends in a number of ways. The whole thing seems to have been moving WAY too fast, and it frightened the whole world.

I don't think it will lead to good things still. I think maybe it was well-intended, but the "short-term pain" may be more damaging than expected, and lead to the "long-term gain" becoming a myth that doesn't bear out in reality. Seems to me, and I'm just speaking personally here - I'm no economist - but the world economies are just too fragile to be jacking with them that severely. Leaders start hemorrhaging and immediately looking to distance themselves from someone they perceive intends to grab them by the you-know-whats and not let go.
