They blame the drop in the PC market due to the change in windows 8 because they were targeting (and rather late IMO) tablets and other such devices. Microsoft wanted to enter that market while neglecting the PC.
If PC sales dropped that much, then that tells me Microsoft still has the monopoly on them yet. My concern is that windows 8 is windows 8. I'm still awaiting the security, slow-up and other issues I predicted on tablets which are really scaled down laptops. I don't think Microsoft will be tops until they deal with that darned virus and resource glut issue.
Of course from my end, I ought to be smart and buy towers cheap right now and load it up with Linux instead of using my clunky tower. If the population was smart, they'd do likewise and the OS would take off, and more apps would be written for it even though as it now stands it's not bad --- plus no more malware or slow-up issues.
