Have you gone through a time in your life where you feel like you are being mistreated or misunderstood? If you are, I can relate. I am going through that right now. When we go through bad times we must remember that God is in control of all of it. We must remember when we are going through times of trial that God works all things for the good of those who love God. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Rom. 8:28) NKJ Our character is more important to the Lord than our comfort.
When we go trials we must remember God has made us wiser than our enemies. Psalm 119:98 says, “You through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies.” Even though my first inclination is to lash out and have vengeful attitudes toward those who do evil against me, according to my own carnal heart, but God has made us wiser than our enemies if we follow His commandments.
Love is wiser than hatred. Meekness is wiser than anger. Humility is wiser than pride. Contentment is wiser than covetousness. Faith is wiser than unbelief. Long-suffering is wiser than revenge. Purity is wiser than lust. Forgiving is wiser that holding a grudge. Trust is wiser than fear. Courage is wiser than discouragement. Holiness is wiser than sin. Submission is wiser than rebellion.
In Psalm 27:6 David wrote, “This speaks of victory over the enemies instead of defeat.” He speaks of victory over his enemies instead of defeat. May we find the same wisdom and power for victory over our inward enemies through knowing and obeying His Word.
The media and movies do nothing these days but advocate getting revenge. Every time anyone does something there is no such thing as forgiveness, only revenge. However, the greatest power over anyone is forgiveness. If you forgive them, they no longer hold any power over you, but that doesn’t make for good TV. As Christians we must not adopt the same attitude of holding a grudge and exacting revenge. We must forgive those who do wrong to us. The Lord will surely protect us.
If you are feeling misunderstood and wronged today. Our first response it to be wiser than our enemies and obey the commandments of the Lord.
