Is word of wisdom always infallible? Can it be preferable at times? How close enough is it to discernment?

One thing about this word of wisdom thing is that some who know little about your past may use the knowledge to deceive you.

I hate speculations

The scripture says it like this, "For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of calamity." Proverbs 24:16 NASB

Colossians 1:9-12 NASB says to pray;

9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the [k]knowledge of His will in

all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, [l]to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good

work and [m]increasing in the [n]knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to [o]His glorious might, [p]for the attaining of all steadfastness

and [q]patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us [r]to share in the inheritance of the [s]saints in Light.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [a]without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 NASB

As with all of God's gifts, there are true words of wisdom from God and there are also people who fake it. If the word truly is from God, it will be correct. If it is fake, it may or may not be correct. The problem is that we don't know who had genuinely heard from God and who is deceiving us.

1 Corinthians 12:10b KJV said:
...to another discerning of spirits...

In a group with all of the gifts operating, someone will have the gift of discerning of spirits.

Is word of wisdom always infallible?
If it's inspired by the Spirit of God, how can it be? Paul gave personal judgments that weren't directly from the Holy Spirit ("I, not the Lord"), but they are given as one who has spiritual insights. In Acts, the Apostles came up with a solution to a problem that the Holy Spirit approved of.

Can it be preferable at times?
Preferable to what?

I
How close enough is it to discernment?
Discernment is a distinct and separate gift. You don't have to have the gift of discernment to have the gift of wisdom. But I can see how doling out spiritual wisdom can be enhanced by the gift of discernment.

It's important to distinguish between knowledge and wisdom.

Preferable to...umm...oops! I forgot what I had in mind

Word of wisdom is always infallible when it comes from the Spirit of God. Mans words of wisdom usually comes from a carnal mind that likes to use logic to rationalize and can be fallible at times. When it comes to the word of God discernment is given to everyone who is in Christ as we test those spirits that speak.

1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1John 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
1John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

2 John 1:8-10
New International Version (NIV)

8 Watch out that you do not lose what we[a] have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. 9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them.
