I've worked hard at times but never been a worka holic . 12 hour shifts I consider workaholism by the way. Some are forced to do it. Some are happy to be there.
Work can take our mind off our own sin. We might feel ill will towards others. We might be living a double life with addictions such as gaming or pornography or drugs and so on.
By working hard, and especially in human services, we can focus on others' needs. Or our boss's needs. We are pleasing someone else's agenda.
I think non Christians might use work as a way of compensating for their lack of meaning in life. A way of feeling good about themselves.
When work replaces God, we need to be aware of that. God first, boss second . Often there shouldn't be a conflict in that anyway. I'm talking here more about our overall attitude to work. Work won't save our eternal souls I don't think.

This is so true Humble. It's good to keep busy. Even after retiring there are plenty of things to do. It's good for our health. I sometimes wonder how I fitted everything in when I was working. Couldn't do it now :lol

not saying it can't be that way .reading meters once you get the hang of it is by,memory and you ,if like me over think life while doing it

when I,do drive as I do drive out routes to read meters ,had one today ,in parts you have time to notice old places ,that recent photo thread is how I got the idea to photo ,nearby it is the place I had to go.I do give warmings to pay or cut on,turn on ,and start reads .pull meters .the interior photo is why I had to come back and photo .

once i photo ,depending on the subject I will rehearse its history of known ,sometimes I post the photo on fb to get the story that place is such a place .

now then I can also use the time to think to be on bad thinking ,really hard on the bad dreams days not to do that .had one this morning

or in my case with big blue cause bad dreams ,photos of that and the concern of job loss did create interesting dreams ,I still have the long and creative route dreams .usually electric routes .these can be bothersome or interesting.

I used to have a lot of nightmare.s . I read somewhere that if you tell yourself you will turn the dream around (before you go to sleep) you can do it. I found it worked.

never bothered to wake up ,unless its one of my military dreams .memories of men dead or simple remember the men I served with .

the power plant ones usually involve the photos i took ,a route with it or something like it on it ,and at times the speaking turbines ,both big blue and the diesel plant when it was converted into a brewery did that to me .

I was looking at old photos of both earlier .

thousands ,categorized and dated at times ,some subjects just draw me back to them .one is the women's club ,I,took night photos of that and decided to get a day photo ,also the steeple of first baptist behind it .

I pondered the last time I went in there alma lee loy was alive and corrected a.w. young on a name and told him he was correct on his grand fathers accounts as she remembered him ,she was real about 21 when he died and my aunt in law 22 .they knew each other .

How long are your shifts Jason?
Or how many km would you cover in a shift?

it depends ,some routes are long walks but Actualy, shlet because the houses are close ,Edgewood, the flc route is a 4 hour route but has 360,reads and includes two other historic communities .probably a 6 or 7 mile route .let me try something

6.40,miles .not counting the additional walk to the bathroom the fee times before i decided to,split it and move my,truck ,still just walking the same read just no dead walk back ,that would make it without about 6 miles.10.94 with a total walk not counting the bathroom trip.

i wish i could work. when i tried my hand it, i was so burned out, physically sick, and already not well liked...did not go well. ugh. then the complete breakdown, more shock treatments, and..

-sigh- now? i doubt anyone will hire me. if i did get a job, it'd be a low wage job in a "right to work" (read: fire at will!) state, and even with my new ability to do things and respect others and other good things The Lord has blessed me with...

i doubt id last long. there's a lot of factors that keep something like 3/4 of US "Schizophrenic" people chronically unemployed....

so, i think i'll be content at a personal level with what I have despite not being able to work.

on a more general note...work is vital to most people. i wish the us would offer more worker protections and employers would treat their workers better. even relatively high(ish) pay, white collar jobs...free range rudeness and cruelty are rampant. i read somewhere that workplace bullying might be part of what's driving up the number of people on disabilty rolls. ugh. is it like that in other nations, too? or is the US just...getting rough and jagged, all over? i dunno.

Gee that is a good work out. Keeps you fit at least.

I cover about 7 to 10 Km in my 4 hour daily cleaning shift. Similar to you maybe.
