it seems no matter what the field is especially recently good honest workers are hard to find.

I left meter reading and came back as my boss knew i would easily read routes and he didn't have to train me .he said after one employee transferred he wasn't in a rush to hire as the candidates sucked .we did find one who likely will make probation as he has three months into the job .

kids lack initiative ,desire to work extra .learn .

The fact that you would show up and work and they knew this from past work history , that's important . And of course you already knew all the in's and outs of the job . Some will not even show up , those drive the managers crazy .

true problem is that these are causing problems with job quality .
 
Sure, do you know their work experience? Probably didn't have a full time job beforehand.
ah yes. my boss wouldn't hire a person that low entry level work and he is critical..

case in pioint .a kid got hired to work as an admin at an airport I worked at and had a degree in airport operations and yes that is a thing .he needed job experience but was hired at 26 per hour above an experience usaf vet with certs and experience and piloting knowledge ,drone use is must .the vet built then and would share his knowledge .he was certified in it . kid didn't want to learn at all didn't want to learn anything outside the office

somehow he kept his job .the other guy worked hard . I personally know them both and this story .the vet worked at several fields one being usaf base in Colorado .area 51 ,and a few others .loading munitions was his skill .he learned to refuel after he got out and went to flight school.


if you can go to college and make it you have some time to learn the basics of work . this kid explained his way of paying through college .he worked when he went through at the same time .

few there liked him.someone above them did.tjr only way he would have stayed. pay me 20 bucks with a promise to make more and I would have tried that job then.
 
At my old job, I was frequently thanked for being reliable. Being thanked for consistently showing up on time, and rarely missing shifts, and calling when I would be late. (Now, some people do genuinely struggle with chronic lateness. My mom is one of them, I suspect she's on the spectrum like myself. Difference is my mom actually has a work ethic otherwise.)

I was a cashier, later on promoted to service desk/supervisor/cash office/etc. Most of my coworkers on the front end were in highschool. I was 25 when I started that job, I had it until I was 31. I'd continually see people (including the adults who worked there, mostly in 20s) skip out on shifts, quit without notice, quit within the first couple weeks, etc.

Gen Z does seem to have issues here.
