World Series 2009!

My beloved Philadelphia Phillies have the distinction of being the world's losingest team. No other team, in any nation or in any sport, has lost 10,000 games.

The New York Yankees are America's winningest team. They have won 38 World Series (the US baseball championship) and are the only team to have won five World Series in a row.

And last night, for the first time in history, my Phillies beat the Yankees.
 
Vince, let's get some facts straight. Game one was a 6-1 win for the Phils. Second, the Philies beat the Yankees 7-3 in May with Burnett on the hill, so it was not the first time they have beaten them.

3rd... Go Yanks!!!!!
 
Aaargh, you're right, Bones. I forgot that they allow one cross-league game per year. How did I miss that one?

Nonetheless, my beloved Philadelphia Phillies will triumph over their foes.

The Phillies have -zero- chance of winning four straight against the Yankees, let alone much of a chance to win tonight's game. Lidge was one strike away from evening the series and the whipped out his gas can and set the stadium on fire. If Cliff Lee has to hand it over to the bullpen the series is over.
 
Um, there's only 3 games left, so they would have to win all three, not four. Still, that is a very tall order.
 
The phantastic Phillies phinally woke up, phiring away at the Yankees for a 6-2 lead in the sixth inning.

You Phillie-busting, philibustering pharisees are in phor a disappointing game tonight.
 
After building an 8-2 lead, the Phillies almost blew it, but they won 8-6.

The Phillies must win two games in a row, or it's over for them.

As a matter of fact:

The Yankees won the 2000 World Series. They went to the Word Series the next two years in a row, built a lead, and then lost both series.

The Phillies have their own great tradition: they built a huge lead and then lose.
 
What happens when America's winningest team goes to the World Series against the world's losingest team?

(sigh) The New York Yankees have won the World Series. (sniff)
