Would you guys be allowed to listen to bands that occasionally mock Christianity?

I think you shouldn't listen to music like that. There is a band releasing an album tomorrow which my son wants to buy, and it is horrible. It mocks God and the church, and I looked them up and the lyrics made me sick. Christians should live a life of purity - live in the world, not of the world. I do not want music like that in my house. My son has an album by Marilin Manson, and I read through the booklet to see the words. I then threw it away as it was awful, but this new album he wants is even worse! It is called Mass Debate, by a punk rock band called Anarchists Pogo Party. I feel very strongly about this as it can change how our children grow up.

Personally, I wouldn't listen to music that criticizes Christianity or God. There's many bands/artists I've had to give up for that particular reason. It just doesn't sit right with me. If I love God, why would I want to listen to something that's against Him? I don't think it's healthy for one's spiritual life either.

Mock Christianity? Probably not. Criticize Christianity or express anti-Christian sentiments? It depends. What I mean is that I wouldn't have problems listening to a band who has a song in which they do that. I think music is a place where good musicians work out their beliefs. Some of my favorite artists have expressed political views that I disagree with and I can live with that. However, it becomes a different thing when they become mostly "about" that. If a band criticized Christianity as an overall theme, or does it on a regular basis, that would most likely be a deal breaker for me.
