Would you.....

When I was still in technical college and we had job prospects coming our way I was 30 years old and with the experience I had I remember telling my youthful classmates that pay scale came in relatively low on my list of priorities when considering potential employment.

First, there's a difference between a job and a career. When it comes to a job one can put up with a lot of bunk for the sake of the paycheck it might provide. This is because a job is temporary whereas a career is a lifelong pursuit.

Here's what I told my classmates was my list of priorities in order of importance with regard to a potential career.
1. What will I be doing. If I'm miserable with the work I will be miserable with my life and that would not be good.
2. Where will I be living. I could never accept a career position in Phoenix for example because I know I could never be happy in a desert. The only way I could possibly justify accepting an offer in a desert location is if it paid so well, that I knew I could save enough to quit within a very short few years and get out of there.
3. What is the benefits package that is included. Being in my 30's at the time medical coverage was high priority followed closely by my vacation package.
4. What is the retirement package? This too was beginning to gain priority for me.
5. What is the potential earnings.
6. What is the potential growth opportunities within the company.
kiss 3&4 goodbye, even where I work they have made the descent insurance too costly, and have reduced the pension. within a few decades pensions for the government will likely be 401k , even the the army's retirement has been eyed to go that way.

Would you rather be poor and work at a job that you love or rich and work at a job that you hate?

I'm poor and work at a job I hate, so either one is an improvement.

Of course, I guess that depends on what you mean by "poor". I have a very low salary compared to others that work in the same field. I work for the city, and cities around the world are not known for being the highest paying employers. But compared to most people in the world, I'm quite rich. In fact, I'm in the top 10% of the wealthiest people in the world.

I doubt anyone of this forum is poor, or they would not have daily access to the internet.
I steal it from my neighbor.

A truly poor person, if they have a job at all, is doing hard laboring work at minimum wage or less.
How can anyone love that?
I worked under unreasonable stress in an office for slightly more than minimum wage for years. Added three kids to the one I already had during that time. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

Then again, a truly poor person that even has a job is thankful just for that.
It's true. Been that, done there.

I remember a time when I got laid off and eventually ended up relying on public assistance to support my family. Went for two years with zero adjusted gross income and one year less than $300.00 adjusted gross income. I'll never forget when I finally got to pay income taxes again. However, truth be told, I don't recall being any happier today than I was then. I think it's all a matter of perspective and attitude.

Hebrews 13: (NKJV)
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

You think it's a nuisance dropping a socket while working on your car? Try dropping one at 35,000 ft. :lol
lol. in flight missile repairman. but yes loosing a tool in aircraft is rather big scare and they will rip it apart to find it.

I would rather work where the Lord told me to go and work. Pay has nothing to do with it as the Lord supplies all my needs as promised.

I also am not sure what "RICH" means. The Lord can spend Millions in just a minute and get you the same again. Rich seems to be defined by where a persons faith is at.

Me too Brother Mike. I think of my place of work as the place where the Lord wants me to witness to others. The actual job I'm doing at work is second to that. When I say "witness", I mean mostly being a Christ-like example, but there are opportunities to share the gospel too.
