WWJD?

Yes, that Q again: what would Jesus do?

I was on my front porch, smoking a cigarette (probably not something Jesus would do, lol). These dudes were walking their bicycles at the sidewalk way out front (my parents have a pretty big front yard that goes up to the sidewalk). Talking loudly enough for me to hear them, they called me a "faggot." Yes, its the south :-(

I didn't do what Jesus would do. The porch is pretty big (old house, massive front porch), so I walked up to the edge of my porch, tried to make eye contact (hard w/o glasses on), and kept smoking.

The world says "Stand up for yourself!" Jesus says "turn the other cheek!"

The world says "Don't take that!" Jesus says "Be meek! Forgive!"

Ugh!!!!!!!!! I have so much work to do. I called a Pentecostal friend and she advised me on the proper way to go about it. Be a Christian about it; turn the other cheek, and go about your life. Don't be stupid and let haters ruin your walk.

I'm getting there, I promise.

Anybody had WWJD moments lately? Please share (success and failures...nobody's here to judge, lol).

I have never been an advocate of the phrase WWJD.Because Jesus is Jesus and we are human beings.I understand that we should do what is pleasing to Christ because he is with us at all times...but....We can not do what Jesus would do.

I would've just smiled and waved.

Mean spirited people expect a certain reaction to their taunting. Their intent is to hurt you emotionally with their words. If you don't react, their plan backfires and leaves them holding the dirty end of the stick. It's humiliating to a bully to get blown off and ignored. Their ego gets knocked down a couple notches and it stings. Sting'em enough times and they'll eventually leave you alone.

If their words do cause you pain, don't let'em see it. Just smile and if you have to, just walk away.

I have had to do this at work with very, very mean people. The Bible says to be kind to those who hurt you.OH BOY,that is hard and it has taken me many years to perfect it.People are kind of puzzled about your kind reaction.

"A soft answer turneth away wrath" (Proverbs 15.1).

Kathi, I Don't see a problem with it. As we are clothed in Christ and are to live a life pleasing to God. We SHOULD think what would Jesus do and try to emulate His love and perfection. As for "we can not do what Jesus would do" I find that a disturbing statement. The very changes He has wrought in us and our conscious decisions to live and act according to His will are proof that we CAN do what He would do. After all, God created us in His image which is sinless. Given the opportunity and working at it we can be more LIKE Him.....never be EXACTLY like Him, but LIKE. We will always be tempted and many times may stumble. But each time get the heck up, dust ourselves off, recognize our transgression and what triggered it. Then ask for forgiveness ..and His patience and never forget what the trigger was, thus giving us the opportunity to overcome it, if it arises again.

Christ Empowered. I too struggle with it at times. I'm happy to say that over the years it has become easier to give haters and negative people the other one to slap.
in the past I used a lot of self depreciating humor in situations like that. ..no-ones ever called me a fag , but have mocked my weight before I got back into training, tattoo's (this is NOT going to be a tattoo derailing), having been jailed, other things they don't like about me and now they've turned it to me walking with Christ.
This last one has been the hardest for me to accept the negativity about because, these weak, ignorant, intolerant and lost people will tell you that "the changes you've made are great" and ask "how'd you do it d....r?" Then mock the answer. Makes my blood boil and sees me returning to the old ..umm...aggressive me....very rarely these days but nonetheless it is hard when someone is mocking my Creator, Saviour and Best Friend. (Defending my faith???)
What I'm trying to say in a long winded way is : YOU.WILL. GET THERE as we all will / have. Hurdles on the way, jump em and move onto the next one.

I agree with you brother. WWJD is an excellent perspective. I thought it was cheesy when I first heard it, but over time I thought about it. Are we not the body of Christ? He is the head, we are the body. How can we not be like Him, we are Him. Led by him. We are not the head, and could not be the Head, but we are in Him, He in us, and we are the body. We could never be the head. If the toe tries to think and make decisions for the body, he will stumble. Nevertheless, we are directed by the Head and can be like Him for we are in Him, and He in us.

Kiwidan:...Think about it. A few dudes walk past you on there bicycles, with no chicks, and call you a 'faggot'. They a bit contradicting dont you think? :biggrin2. Your just chilling out doing your own thing, have a ciggy, and a group of dudes are the ones calling YOU a 'fag'. :hysterical

LOL! Yeah! Good catch brother!. CE, I had the thought that perhaps they are intimidated by you, or envious of what you have. Maybe your light hurts their eyes? What do people do when they are intimidated? They get defensive. Uh-huh. You are so far above them that this is entirely possible and even probable. Knowing this, you should be able to smile and feel sorry for them. You have the Spirit of the Almighty GOD within you brother. You can't hide it and it will be intimidating to people. They will try to tear you down for the satisfaction. You don't have to let them. You don't even need to respond to them. They see it. Now you believe it. ;)
