"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" Love that one, it has such a beautiful tune, and is within my range so I actually sound pretty good singing it! :lol

Also, "Silent Night" and "O Come, All Ye Faithful".

Is this specific to carols that people sing at someone's door for example? Or is this including Christmas songs in general? I'm not into caroling door to door at all. I feel silly standing out someone's door, and I REALLY feel awkward standing at my door while the finish their song. What am I supposed to do? Just keep nodding in approval?

:couch

Here's a bit of a funny story. Some teens (including our neighbor) came to our door while I was home alone one night. They sang their song, I thanked them, and I shut my door. I told my wife when she got home, and she asked how much I "tipped" them. I was like, "huh?" :oops So I ran across the street and followed up with some cash. :lol I didn't know! :shrug Caroling isn't as common as it once was, where I live anyway.

Sorry for the diversion. My favorite Christmas song has always been "Oh Holy Night". :yes

Wow, they tip people for caroling in Michigan. Man, they sure didn't when we went caroling in California. Mostly they just awkwardly stood there until we finished singing, then they said "Thank you" and shut the door.

:lol At one house, this very nice little old lady stood there smiling at us as we sang, and in the background we could hear this grabby old guy yelling, "Shut the d**n door, you're letting the heat out!"

I'm not much into caroling myself either. Done it, won't do it again!

O Little town of Bethlehem:

'...
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still,
The dear Christ enters in.'

(Among other favorites...)

away in a manger, the holly and the ivy and in the bleak midwinter ...

...and another favorite:

O Come All Ye Faithful

'God of God,
Light of light,
Lo, He abhors not the virgin's womb,
Verily God, begotten, not created,
O come let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!'

I can't decide on a favorite but these are among the top:

O Holy Night
What Child is This?
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O Little Town of Bethlehem

I've always loved O Come All Ye Faithful. :)

Not into carolling, but I love going to my 11pm Christmas Eve church service and singing it with about 300 other young adults :thumb

Uh, Mike... I'm South African, remember? We don't to Christmas carols at people's doors (for numerous reasons.)

First of all; we have summer Christmases. African summer Christmases. Now unless you want to walk over to your neighbour's house and die of heat exhaustion on the way, you will have to drive there. Which will put you at risk of being hijacked. If they don't hijack you, your car will most definitely not be where you left it if you make it back alive and in one piece. By that I mean you will have to find a way over your neighbour's fence which either has barbed wire or electric fencing. (Those suckers have a serious bite to them) Then you have to make your way past the security beams and the pitbulls. If you trip the alarm, the armed response will arrive with full force (it's pointless to call the police over here) and they will shoot the @*$% out of you.

My medical aid was exhausted in September already (oh, come January 1st) so I am most definitely referring to songs playing in shopping malls and not to the wailing and screaming of potential carol singers in my front yard being chewed on by my dogs and dodging the security forces's bullets.

"O night devine" Over played like all Christmas hymns but a very powerful song.

Hey! Welcome to CFnet! :waving I hope you will have fun here.
<O:p</O:p

I ran a search on Youtube on all the carols mentioned here and it seems as if most have been translated into my mother tongue. As a matter of fact – I grew up on them. I’m currently at the office (06<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
