good Scripture.

im getting there, by God's grace.
The modern Church no longer believes the answer is found in the Cross of Christ, and only in the Cross of Christ. In place of the Cross, it has substituted humanistic psychology. Never mind that such wisdom is “earthly, sensual, and devilish” (James 3:15). They have opted for that in place of the “wisdom that is from above,” which is “first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17).

To forsake the Cross is to forsake Christ. They cannot be separated.

thanks, yet again. ive repented of my own "learning" from psychology and such, and The Lord has been responding by...

providing much greater -real understanding- , less clouded by therapeutic falsehoods.

as a Christian you can not forsake the cross. unless you deny Jesus . i realize your a Big J S M Fan they all teach on the cross. we are commanded to take up our cross . many time we use different phrases that may leave the word cross out. but the cross is still there .

Proverbs 21:27
The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?

The wicked are those who do NOT have their faith in the promise of Christ and His sacrificial work at the Cross, and God has declared that whatever other sacrifice they may bring, such as Cain did, it is a wicked abomination to God. The Lord also says that when one brings a sacrifice to Him with a wicked mind, that it is even much more an abomination. The wicked mind is without a doubt the mind that actually thinks his own works are pleasing to God just as Cain thought and expected God to be pleased with the work of his hands. God only looks at the object of one’s faith, and when He sees the heart of man believing unto righteousness, which is in the Cross of Christ alone, He is pleased. Outside of that one object of faith, He cannot be pleased (Hebrews 11:6). It is the faith of the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us which we live by (Galatians 2:20), and in which God is pleased, or we aren’t living and He isn’t pleased.

Proverbs 21:21

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

Only those who “Follow after” righteousness and mercy will find and experience Life, Righteousness and honor. The only Way to follow after righteousness and mercy is to follow after the One who is our Lord of Righteousness and mercy before God, Jesus Christ. Here’s what must be known about following Christ. Anyone who does not have their faith in the work of Christ at the Cross is not following Christ, as He taught that to follow Him one would have to deny himself, take up his cross (Faith in His sacrificial work at Calvary), and then He can be followed (Luke 9:23).

Every Word that God has ever spoken is “In Righteousness” (Proverbs 8:8), and for faith to come, we must hear God’s Word in its proper context (Romans 10:17), or it will not be faith which comes, but the corruption of our flesh. The Bible says the Spirit is Life because of Righteousness (Romans 8:10), and this Righteousness is the result of God’s love and mercy toward us through our faith in the death of Christ (Colossians 1:20). Outside of faith in the sacrifice of Christ “Daily”, this honor will not be found, and no man will see the Lord through us.

THE TRUTH

The truth is, “He blotted out the handwriting of Ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His Cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it” (Col. 2:14-15). The words, “Nailing it to His Cross . . . triumphing over them in it” means that Jesus’ great victory was won on the Cross, and on the Cross exclusively.

Most Christians are practicing Salvation by "Faith," and Sanctification by "self (lukewarm)?" The Righteousness of God is imputed to a person only on the basis of Faith in Christ, and what Christ has done at the Cross. Romans 4:5

This thread brought to mind to me the bible story of when Peter walked on the water and I think it is an example for us. If I understand right, vehicles of any sort in the bible, or dreams or whatever are symbolic of ministry. So when Peter got out of the boat, it was his miistry that he acted from. He acted in faith and got out of the boat. He had his eyes on Jesus and everything was fine....then for whatever reason, he took his eyes off of Jesus for a moment...and immediately he began to sink.

We are to act in faith. That is not works and does not save us. However, once we are saved and the Lord begins the sanctification process on us...we must press in so to speak and act in faith rather than not. Otherwise, how could we be a profitable servant for the Kingdom of God?

Of course these things of the Lord we do not do by our own strength or power...it is the Lord alone who does that. But we must initiate acts of faith. (Get out of the boat...), take the risk.

Why do some Christians seem to have more faith than others? Why are some peoples prayers answered a lot more than others? Because they act in faith more than others.

I'm not sure what all this has to do with denying ourselves, but it is interesting.

In other words if I use my flesh (the law) and not the Spirit (grace) to accomplish sanctification I become a transgressor.

Sorry, the flesh and the law are not the same thing.

The law gives us an awareness of sin.

The works of the flesh are sin.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

Maybe you could rephrase your statement.

Yes this is done when we are born again.

We now have a clean slate, and a new nature, empowered by the Spirit that enables us to live our lives according to the Spirit within us in that we express righteousness rather than living our lives according to the sinful desires of the flesh, in which we practice the works of the flesh.

If we practice righteousness then we are righteous; ie right with God.

Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.
1 John 3:7

If we practice the works of the flesh then we are in danger of condemnation, in which we will not inherit the kingdom of God.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

This is done by the power and grace of the Spirit.

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 1 Peter 1:22-23

The cross is where we start our journey along the narrow way that leads to life.

The cross is where we find forgiveness and cleansing for our souls along the way.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

The scripture says that the "Law" gives sin its power (1 Corinthians 15:56). If you use your flesh it because your law. All works must be produced and birthed by the Holy Spirit. Failure to do so it is rotten fruit from the flesh; and to sow to the flesh in any capacity is to reap corruption (Galatians 6:7).

If you don't understand how the Holy spirit works, the only place to go is law.

Sanctification is not automatic; if it was, know one would sin.

Again, sanctification is not automatic. You (whosoever will) must submit to God redemption plan - "The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:2

“No! The Work of the Holy Spirit is not automatic.
Stop and think a moment. If the Work of the Holy Spirit within our hearts and lives were automatic, then there would never be another failure on the part of the Child of God. We would never take a wrong direction; we would never fail the Lord, etc., but, we know that’s not the case, don’t we? While the Holy Spirit is God and, as such, can do anything, still, He has an agenda within our hearts and lives, and that is that we develop as we should in the Lord, coming from dependence on the flesh to dependence on the Holy Spirit. As we have stated, that is not a quick or uneventful journey. John Newton, who wrote “Amazing Grace,” said it well. He wrote:

“Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares,
“I have already come;
“’Tis Grace hath bro’t me safe thus far,
“And Grace will lead me home.”

wrong very wrong
This is the problem with most Christians, you are proclaiming Christ but forsaking the Cross. This is called the sin of spiritual adultery (Rom. 7:1-4).

As a Christian we were "set free" the moment we are saved - "made free" speaks of a process. "Set Free," i.e., instantaneous - "Made Free, " i.e., You should know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32, John 14:6). "Made Free" = sanctification.
