My point was that we should think for ourselves, not just accept something because Stephen says so.
Robots are useful tools. No reason to think they will take over though. Nobodies Roomba vacuum cleaner has ever taken over their house.
When you have it doing tasks it's something you cede.
We don't have cars yet that self drive fully but of you think I as a mechanic can't simply by pulling one wire on a car ,thar you won't be able accelerate it .you are wrong, newer cars have no direct link from the pedal to the throttle plate.
See the deaths caused by a throttle plate sensor programmed input response in error .
Or that I phones dont or can't be reprogrammed to run slow.a machine can be programmed to kill by men.aI ,fully sentient not imho is possible but enough to adapt?
We have video games that are meant to adapt to our habits and beat us.they make them easy to be beat.see the drone programmed ,and modified to see a target aND using a glock hit a target by a teen.
Our water grids are autonomous,no one goes out and turns on an off water pumps for wells, and lift stations.they operate automatically as does substations .these are monitored but to have it fully manual would render these hard to use .not enough man power.my grid has 105 lift stations, one hundred wells.there's a back up ,but if it all goes down ,we got problems.
See our problem with concern over a mass emp pulse. Farming is very automated.we are working on more and more automation as we speak.
We have robots who call for solitications.I get those Daily.will we be seeing ai,androids like data? Probably not but robots who can do more then I like.
We have worked robot who can climb, jump and dog like ones who can open doors, jump, run too.
Imagine one of those armed and you are it's game.shooting that will take more to stop then a person would.that's where I think hawkins is saying.
