Does anyone know why October ended up as the 10th month on our calendar instead of the 8th?

Because it comes after September?

Here's one for you.
What has four letters, sometimes has nine letters and never five?

*raises hand* Oh I know! I know! The answer is in the question I think. What has four letters,.. sometimes has nine,.. and never has five. Am I right?

But why didn't we keep it as the 8th month when the change was implemented and have August in the 10th spot. Would have made more sense.

Well, they probably had all their Gladiator calendars all printed up already.

December should have been tenth. Interesting question.

Those must have been some old calendars, since to Roman empire had been dead and gone for centuries before they switched to the current calendar.

Julian calender was used until the Gregorian Calender which is what we have used since with one modification, the leap year.

There was more than just that. The start of the new year used to be April 1st, now it is January 1st. This is why the former is called April Fools.

I'm really sorry but the thing is that I don't really even get the whole entire point of this topic lol

the janus God, that is where we get New years and it was celebrated on January 1st. roman tradition.

Yay!!! Stovebolts liked my comment so that must mean that I was right with my answer! Do I win a cookie? Lol

Jewish month begins the new moon as they use a Lunar Calendar unlike our Gregorian Calendar. The Lunar Calendar started with Abid/March so count from March to October and October is the eight Lunar month.

1. Abid / Nisan...............March-April
2. Zif / Iyyar...................April-May
3. Sivan .........................May-June
4. Tammuz.....................June-July
5. Ab / Av.......................July -August
6. Elul............................ August-September
7. Ethanim Tishri..............September-October
8. Bul / Marheshvan / Heshvan.........October-November
9. Chisleu /Chislev / Kislev /.............November-December
10. Tebeth / Tevet....................December-January
11. Shebat / Shevat...................January-February
12. Adar....................................February-March

The start of the year in England was March 25 from sometime in the high middle ages until 1752. It was never on April 1. But all through that period manuscript church calendars began with January, and in the later part of that period almanac-makers started their year with January.
