I've been around animals most of my life and I've pretty much always thought that they seem smart and sometimes seem to be...working things out in their mind. And even though I've read the Bible several times, I never really noticed this scripture before until just recently. It knocked my socks off! I'm still chewing on the ramifications of this. It's just, wow.

Job 12:7-9
7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?.../

So...ask the animals or the birds? Uhhh huh. I suspected as much!
And we can even speak to the earth and it will answer? Scripture does say that all of creation sings praises to the Lord so this makes sense then.

Do you think that trees have a sense of humor? :couch

Do you guys think I'm nuts? It is scripture.

I know. I have noticed that. Many people (including me) have talked a lot to their dogs but I think they've just looked for an answer and expected a certain behavior. I don't think I've ever talked to a dog and looked or listened for an actual answer.

It happened in scripture though! Remember the talking donkey who didn't want to pass the Angel? Interesting.

love it - thanks

Then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?” Numbers 22:28 NKJV

Yes! The Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, but, in re-reading the section this morning, I see that the donkey knew enough on his own to not want to try to pass an Angel who was armed!

23 And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.../

It doesn't say that the Lord opened the eyes of the donkey or that He let the donkey know that the armed Angel was dangerous. So it would seem that the donkey reasoned this out for him self!

Some animals are smarter than others then, because I have had multiple of my dogs come right up to the muzzle of a gun that I had to sniff it. One of my dogs that I took shooting with us would see fired bullets striking dirt or grass and making movement would try to go out in front to check these movements out. So...dumber dogs? Or so smart to know that I was no threat to him?

I'm starting to think that animals should be playing a bigger part in mankinds lives than we all think.

Think about it. In the Garden of Eden, when the serpent spoke to Eve, she was not surprised to have this animal speaking to her. Perhaps they all used to speak to us and do not nowadays because of people's unbelief and they do not look to them to speak. Well, beyond woof woof, lol.

Metaphor StoveBolts ,in jewry the idea is even as man has a Ruach,so does rocks, the earth and all of creation.the animals like my avatar in her death taught me about love .

Bella a rescue the same

Satan possessed that snake ,also if a snake was sentient and other kinds why does God command us to slay cows ,and sheep in the tanakh and also permit then as food?

God allowed the donkey to speak ,he gave it the ability temporarily .I,don't see animals as equal since we were given dominion over them

I didn't say they was equal to us, lol. Just that thy're smarter than we realize.

And scripture does say God opened the donkey's mouth but ot that God opened his eyes to be able to see or fear the Angel.

I agree on,that but talkimg and formation of the level of thought to know what God said and to challenge ,that's satan

Huh? I'm not sure what you mean?

Well snakes don't have legs so no walking and no hands to write poetry with but how would you really know if they could or could not think poetry in their mind?

Scripture says all of creation praises God, right? So that would take a mind methinks. Maybe not a carnal mind (!) but a mind nonetheless.

And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:

“Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
Revelation 5:13 NKJV

Yeah we do see through a glass darkly but God continues to give us clues and bits of truth all through our life. You do open a can of worms with this, but that is ok because we prolly should discuss it some.
First, Our scientists do know now that our heart has a much greater thinking capability than our brain (HeartMath.org) and I personally think that our heart is somewhat physical somewhat spiritual. Or at least there is some sort of nexus between them. So It is entirely possible that it is on a spiritual level. The stars do not have a physical heart, but are they without a spiritual one?

And what about that scripture that says something about, the very stones would cry out to God? I heard a testimony from a gal (online) where she was having a visitation and Her and Jesus was talking and Jesus made the statement to her that, her cat contemplates God better than she does. I got no indication that this lady was speaking an untruth.
In another testimony (different lady) was taken in spirit to Heaven and was giving testimony about it, and she said she saw children playing around a tree there and one little girl was reaching up to pick a piece of fruit from the tree. When she would reach up for the fruit, the tree lifted it's branch higher out of the reach of the little girl Then it would lower it's branch so the child would try again, and do it again. Almost like teasing and playing with the child. Do trees have a sense of humor?!
I know that may sound insane, but...in this natural realm where deception is rampant and all truths denied us, how can we be sure that this is not true? Is anything too hard for God? And if all of creation is groaning for the Lord's return, then how is that possible unless there is more truth to it than we are being shown by the world? Our understanding tells us, that is ridiculous and yet, we are told not to lean upon our understanding.

I am inclined to believe that all of these things are possible with God. Can an animal contemplate God without thinking? I think not. Scripture tells us that it is beyond the comprehension of man all the truths and goodness of heaven. So perhaps you should not be so quick to not believe that these things are possible.

Are these things metaphors? Maybe maybe not. I know that scripture uses metaphors, I will not argue that. But is, it's a metaphor, overused by us to justify rejecting things that we do not understand? Perhaps! Lord help my unbelief!

Absolutely, Brother! I had not recalled that one yet. Thanks Brother!

You see, Brothers and Sisters? Scripture is replete with clues which point to truths. Do we really know even 1% truth in this world of deception? I have seen cats look at people in a condescending way. These are not dumb animals here on earth. They are not our equals and some are smarter than others. Ok, so scripture says that God opened the donkeys mouth to talk to Balaam. But it is possible that God first closed the animals mouths. Remember Zachariah? He questioned the Angel that his wife would have a son? He was struck dumb until the child was born. So...God closed Zachariah's mouth! Does his mouth being closed mean that he could not think? :wink
