After watching a number of real life police interrogations on YouTube, I conclude I would not have the courage nor cunning to survive one.
Honesty really is the best policy. Because you can be made to look really stupid if you get caught in a lie.
It amazes me that people really think they can fool the police and investigators.

Can I call my lawyer before I answer that?

It's like watching a cat gradually cornering a mouse. When a human being feels cornered, they look forlorn. Their lies pathetic. Humiliation. Of course they deserve that humiliation. And it's easy to forget their crime, especially if it was murder. But part of me feels sorry for someone caught out in a lie.

Yes I have. And I believe that you are correct. It is essentially impossible to fool trained investigators who have been well schooled in reading body language. That's why, when they interrogate someone, one of the arresting officers will be there and another who you've never seen before walks in with him. He's the trained one who they've shook loose from his desk to come spot your lies. (Lol).

In my experience, a lot of people know a little bit about body language so learn how to suppress the most basic tells. Indeed, even many salesman go to classes on how to appear truthful. But it would seem that not a lot of people are advanced enough in body language to know or even try yo suppress the secondary tells (which can't be suppressed!). At the moment they speak the lie and suppress a tell, it will manifest in a different way.

Gaining more than a rudimentary knowledge of body language (and interrogation techniques) will go far in helping one to get past an interrogation with no damage done, no conclusions given.

best advise from,a cop who did this ,simply, invoke your Miranda rights ,say or write nothing .wait till your lawyer .
So those interrogations I watch.......Americans and in Canada too....don't they have a right to ask for a lawyer?....I can show one example if you want

It's long though. This woman is a nightmare, organising a hit man to kill her husband. But denies everything. Award winning tears. Such an actress.

I would get tired very quickly. Some interrogations last what..10 hours?
I would confess after 1 hour. Then "that's all I have to say on the matter. No more questions please"

the court appoints one ,thus is in the bill of rights ,if you cabt afford one the court appoints a public defense lawyer .these work for the court
Ok so why do the above interrogations go ahead? Without lawyers......I can't believe they didn't want one
