What makes humans different from all the rest

I have determined that it is self-reflection.

I believe our ability to contemplate a “make believe” moment was first put on display by way of the “Theatre”, way back in 5th century BC

The 5th century BC started the first day of 500 BC and ended the last day of 401 BC.. or 2,521 years ago.

That is a very long time ago
Anyway, humans are capable of being in that moment in time and space as though they were there, playing a part.

The first plays were performed in the Theatre of Dionysus, built in the shadow of the Acropolis in Athens at the beginning of the 5th century, but theatres proved to be so popular they soon spread all over Greece. Drama was classified according to three different types or genres: comedy, tragedy and satyr plays.

A play is a work of drama, usually consisting mostly of dialogue between characters and intended for theatrical performance rather than just reading. The writer of a play is a playwright.
Play (theatre) - Wikipedia

Humans eventually were able hear the voices of theatre, nonfiction play by way of the radio.
Anyway, the point is this created an avenue where people can become the person in the play as if you were that person. You can then revisit that play focusing on another aspect of it.

In most cases, morality is woven into the script.
There are the good guys and the bad guys; and in the end the good always wins.
Tv sequels exemplifies as good set of moral values for the observer to experience. And it is all make believe

Make believe, also known as pretend play, is a loosely structured form of play that generally includes role-play
the individual must be intentionally diverting from reality.
The individual must be aware of the contrast between the real situation and the make believe situation.

This healthy ability is what separates us from all the rest.

I watch NCIS, Seinfeld, Gunsmoke, HBO movies of all sorts, MSNBC news, Fox, its all part of the human experience that is unique to the human race; setting us apart from all the rest.
Continuing along this same thread, since theatre originated in Europe;

Do Europeans have sitcoms & comedy to watch on TV today as we do, ?

because scripture says we are made in God's image,an animal being killed unlawfully doesn't,require the blood of the slayer .

what makes humans different from all the rest ?

i believe self reflection .

not all do that ,I know my wife is poor at it and others are shallow persons ,yet neither can be said not made in the image of God .

my dog doesn't self reflect .

while I have watched many sci fiction ,its not a sin ,most entertainmenr is either man trying place himself as God like ,see the q ,the ascended ancient and such like .

or a humanistic view of how life can be better ,often if you pick it apart ,its not quite entertainment and that Shakespearean style of sex ,murder ,betrayal and the occult comes back .

for trek. that was deep space nine ,for stargate it never really tried to present that ,for battle star galactiga it was in the plot with the humans being that Mormonisque tribe fleeing.

There's a couple of other factors, more important (or at least more fundamental) than self-reflection. There's the physical design of them that makes them gods (creators/powers) over the rest of creation, that incorporates a type of intelligence that thinks constructively and plans ahead, with the ability to physically grasp/move things while being mobile. That leads on to the making of tools and enterprises for achieving things that are greater than able to achieve by sheer brute strength. The other part is the act of writing communications, because while animals have complex communication systems and can learn as a community, they lack that aspect which the humans have developed for the purpose of sending thoughts over long distances and throughout time. Essentially that has given strength to the dissemination of knowledge that has empowered human knowledge to grow beyond what one human could possibly learn on their own in a single lifetime. In addition to that, philosophically, the human is a great deceiver, and that is something rarely found in nature - certainly not in the extent that one can say animals are inclined to "breathe lies" as we might say about certain people, especially where power is let to go unaccounted for.

Or the concept of debt.

Discernment is very important for us as Christians . ALL the programming you mention includes drama and make believe . I am sure the Europeans are being programmed the same as the USA .

It's having a conscience. That's the difference. That's all tied in there with self reflection too I think.
I don't agree with the idea that animal's don't have conscience. In reality, you see more respect for others from animals than you do from humans. Whether they are aware of it has to be found by specific observation, and I have known the hearts of cats I have brought in, who though being trained through life to desire birds, quickly learn to respect and only watch them. I have seen a dog reason and choose to not take food from the table when I have triggered his conscience too. But try to get humans to do what is right,... You're going to see pride instead: sin. That's what animals don't have. They're innocent, just as children are.

you are talking about pets ,a whale tosses it soon to be meal(a seal) in,the air to his buddy whale who tosses him back and its not a quick game ,one decides to eat the seal .

hardly humane ,the male German shepherd will eat his own male pups,I ha've a friend who breeds them and trains them for police work and says it's not his first time as he had a photo of a decapitated cute pup .

That's really sad. I wish that wasn't happening. Do you know if the cops had already trained that dog?

I watch quite a few animal videos and you may be right. I have seen those instances that you speak of. I also see animals clearly being mischievous or downright mean.

Animals are not subject to the Law like man is or salvation or anything like that. But I'm becoming convinced that the animals have their own reckoning with the Lord for their behavior also but with an entirely different set of rules than man has. And that being a non salvific issue no mention of it was necessary in scripture. Just my opinion. But I've seen animals decide to do good, and at times to do bad.

From a testimony I heard once...A lady was recounting testimony about her visitation from the Lord and when Jesus quipped to her that, her cat contemplates God better than she does...!!! So there may be something there, lol.
